2023 Estes catalog

I got my 2023 Estes catalog today. Yay!

On page 55 are the coming Great Goblin and the 1:14 scale Black Brant XII. The Great goblin has me drooling--but the BB XII has my wheels turning in anticipation of seeing if I can convert from single stage to 3 stage.

I've been building Goblin upscales for years, but the BB XII is something I might have to grab.

I'd be very tempted to build a boilerplate and gap stage the thing, just to see if I could double gap stage.

I'm definitely going to purchase at least 2 of each.

With the recommended motors both being Estes BP 29mm for the GG my guess for that one at least is balsa. The projected altitude in the catalog is 880 feet - adding the weight of plywood plus the 3.4” stretch of the body tube I don’t see how an Estes F15 would ever hit that. Even with balsa that altitude doesn’t seem likely, at least anywhere other than maybe from a launch site already a mile above MSL!

I hope the Goblin has an accurate cone, not the BDRM cone. Anyone have definitive info on this? I suppose painting the bottom 1.1” yellow makes it fairly close, but still….

Agree the BB XII looks great!

The Goblin will be using the Der Big Red Max nose cone.

Yuck.
Give it an accurate upscale cone or NO DICE !
