50 Years On And Still ‘Cool’

I was 10 when this song was released in 1972. ‘Cool’ song then, still ‘cool’ today. Great image used to ‘illustrate’ this YouTube posting, too! Wow!!

I agree!
I played this song in my one man rock band and I hoped I did it justice.
I love the Hollies!

Great Song. Best rocker the Hollies ever did, but I never really could figure it out if this song was
about getting busted for soliciting a lady of the night, or a drug bust? This song did not include Gram Nash in the Band at the time, it was all Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway's creation.
The only other Hollie's song that I can recall is Bus Stop, kind of a La, La Pop Song.

The story behind "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress". Hint - it is about prohibition

See Post #5 by Bill. "Air That I Breathe" around '74 and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother". Folks probably think the latter is a bit sappy, but it really is a great song if you 'allow' yourself to like it.

I seem to recall either reading or hearing that "Long Cool Woman..." sounded so much like Creedence Clearwater Revival that there was some kind of lawsuit or controversy or kerfuffle... but I can't find anything to support that assertion.

Does anyone else know?

P.S. Also allegedly about Prohibition: "December 1963" by the Four Seasons. "--Only the year was changed to protect the not-so-innocent." ;) :D

Yeah, guitars in both, singing in both, but the similarities end there for me. Maybe being a guitarist brings some ‘extra’ clarity, that not being one makes it less clear. Not sure.

The lawsuit would have seemed frivolous to me, but then again that is probably part of the music biz and CCR was still pretty big in ‘72.

I find CCR just plain awful.
3rd worst band everrrrr on my "worst bands" list, behind constantly screechy/whiny #1 worst Queen and #2 worst Guns-N-Roses with their DIRTBAG singer.
