Background Information: The AMROCS Hawk was released in their first catalog in 1965. Upon first glance, it looks like the Estes Falcon and was heavily influenced by it. The changes were the elimination of 1/16” balsa to give it more strength and durability and changing to a metric body tube and a hollow hardwood nose cone. The lead weight was eliminated due to the weight of the nose cone. Instructions were added to modify it for NAR competition. The Hawk was catalog #K-6 and was introduced at a price of $.75 or 3 for $2.00.
The Semroc Retro-ReproTM HawkTM uses laser-cut balsa fins and a balsa nose cone. Pre-printed lines on the balsa sheet make assembly even easier.

I can't keep up with Sheryl. I did mean to announce it, but I was not quick enough.

The Hawk was an AMROCS kit based on the Falcon. We were going to do the Falcon, but the Hawk used 3/32" balsa all around instead of 1/16" and 3/32". It is a lot more durable and still glides well. My Scouts built four of them at a campout this weekend to shake out problems in the instructions. They were doing 40 seconds on an A8-3 for a first-time build of a model rocket or glider.

Falcon is not one of the names that Estes is trying to recover. We still attribute Larry Renger with the design even though it was changed by AMROCS.”
