The kit was announced in the 2009 Christmas email.

Carl’s description of how the Astron came about:
“The Astron was our choice for the free kit for all new NAR members last year. We were going to give away the Astro-Jr, which was a downscale of the Astro-1, but it was designed for mini-engines. We kept most of the Astron the same, except for the engine mount (to standard 18mm size) and changed the parachute to streamer.
It was going to be called the Astro-N (for NAR), but a trademark search showed that Estes-Cox had permanently revoked their trademark registration of "Astron" earlier in the year so we dropped the hyphen for simplicity and used Astron as the name of the new kit.”

The Christmas 2010 email announced the kit was upgraded to a slotted tube: Semroc Christmas Message2010
And another...
Between now and December 24, we will also include a free Astron with all orders over $25.00 after discounts. This is the new Astron with a pre-slotted tube.

It would be greatly appreciated if you can post if you have or can make the version 1 unslotted tube version of:
Semroc Fin patterns (200 dpi grayscale PDF)
