Art Applewhite 24mm Double Helix

3 Attachment(s)
Art Applewhite is known for doing more with less, doing it oddly, and doing it with flair. This isn't a monocopter, though Art has made some good ones. This is a bicopter. It spirals up on a double helical trail of smoke and flame and then autorotates back down. This one has twin 24mm mounts and needs a short, steady 1/4 inch launch rod to take off.

I am asking $15

This kit is offered for sale in an effort to liquidate my collection of kits and is being offered via cross postings on The Rocketry Forum and Ye Olde Rocket Forum. The price indicated is what I have determined by looking for evidence of similar sales but, admittedly, might reflect a poor judgement on my part. I'm just doing the best that I can. The price does NOT include shipping. Interested persons are invited to contact me via PM and I will calculate the shipping. Payment is expected by means of PayPal, Zelle or Venmo. My intention is to make shipments twice per week after confirming receipt of funds. I will try to give the most accurate descriptions I am able to provide and will happily answer any specific questions either by PM or within the post thread.

May I, please?

That looks very interesting.

Where do I send a check?

JAL3 08-11-2021 03:39 PM

I will take a check since I bought almost everything with a check.

Please understand that if a check is your wish, it will need to clear before shipping.

I am in San Antonio, not too far from Art. If you are interested, please send your mailing address so I can calculate shipping.

PM sent

and I don't mind a bit waiting for a check to clear. Absolutely NO rush on my part. Thanks ahead of time for your help!

I've seen the 18mm version (was called the X-Fire) of this fly, very cool.

The X-Fires (Art pronounced it "Crossfire") and Double Helices were not identical. They differed in the physical layouts but both were exceedingly cool. The corkscrewing smoke trail was a great sight during the day and we occasionally launched them at night also.

The important thing is the launch platform. A 1/4 inch bolt through a pair of crossed 2x4s works well. Trying to launch from a regular launch rod is an invitation to disaster.
