I used to fly my Centuri Saturn V on an Aerotech E15-4 (and with four A3 outboards at times).

The E15 gives a little slower (more realistic) flight profile than the E30. Either are good motors in the Saturn.

The K-36 is a bit lighter than the newer 2157, and much lighter than the current 1969 Saturns. I'm old enough that I regularly flew the K-36 on a D13-3 or D12-3. That being said, I did lawn dart one when it either had a bonus delay or sub-par thrust :eek: .

An Aerotech E gives a lot more margin than a D - although I'd stick with an E15 or RMS E18-4W (I used to trim the delay grain down a bit for a shorter delay when I used an E18-4W). I like the White Lightning propellant in a Saturn V, and as noted it looks better a bit slower.
But don't fly an Estes Saturn V in strong or gusty winds - it can easily cause it to go unstable.

Wow, how life, work and weather gets in the way of building, anyway I did find sometime to finally work on my Saturn. After the old formula Krylon white, I shot a coat of Testors Gloss white then spent about 3 hours masking for Testors Gloss Black. After I masked for black, the weather changed and I did not get around to painting for 2 weeks, at least the masking tape did not ruin anything. I decided to go with Testors spray paint so it would make touch ups much easier using Testors small bottle enamels. Luckily after removing the masking tape, I only had a couple of small areas that needed touch up. I will be using the original decals and should have this rocket done tomorrow or Saturday. So far she weighs 9oz, just shy of the 9.9 ounces advertised on the box. I really worked hard at keeping the weight down so I could fly with a D motor. You can see the D motor adapter that came with the kit. I also assembled the clear fins using dope as an adhesive. So far the best part of this build is to see such an old kit come to life using all parts that came in the kit except the rubber shock cord. You cant see from the pictures but there are some minor imperfections because of the old parts, but I can live with that. I am not using any reference material for finishing this kit, just following the plans and the pictures on the box. I will be posting finished pictures in the next day or so.

Here she is all done with final weight minus engine and wadding coming in at 9.5oz, .4oz under the box weight in the description. For how large this rocket is, I am amazed how light she feels when I pick her up. The old corrugated wraps are pretty thin so I used light coats of spray paint with on light coat of primer. I went with the directions guidance for painting and decal placement, no other reference material was used. For how old the decals are they went on pretty good after spraying the decal sheet with Testors Glosscote. Someday I will build the vintage Saturn B, but that will not be in the near future. No on to building my classic kits.

Put enough weight in the nose to fly with the stock small fins and leave the FUGLY clear plastic where it belongs- IN THE TRASH.
Fly on an Aerotech E30-4. Leave the D12-3 for much smaller rockets.... REALLY.

Nice work, especially keeping the weight down. That ought to fly nicely on a D12-3.
