Avenger Guinevere!

2 Attachment(s)
OK I'll get started.

First the original prototype from...OMG...2005!

http://www.rocketryforumarchive.com...light=Guenavere

And it's spelled Guinevere.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinevere

Now be patient with me on this.

I built this one as a one off and after 6 years I've given in and am going to try to produce this as a kit.

I had no original plans and the patterns were hand drawn and long gone.

I am going to try and reproduce this from the pictures.

Oh, BTW, the decals are already finished! :D That was the easy part.

El Cheapo 04-18-2011 09:12 PM

Very Dragonship 7. I LOVE IT!!!

stefanj 04-18-2011 10:52 PM

I'd buy one.

In fact, I'd pay a deposit, when you're far enough along to feel comfortable taking one.

I was delayed getting my Vostok prototype built.

I'll try to have it worked out this week.

If this was on Facebook I'd hit the 'Like' button!!

I still want a Sandman Little Joe II kit !
While this one looks great, I'd still rather he announces a batch of LJII's are ready !

Almost ready to give up on his LJII and order the Neubauer instead.

OK, I finally finished up my backlog of custom projects so I can get back to this.

I worked out all of the patterns in CAD so those are ready and I've started a new prototype.

This can be done on the cheap but...

Now, the question is how do I proceed?

Do you guys want a full blown kit with laser cut parts, custom nose cones and details?

Or 1) a partial kit, body tubes balsa stock with fin patterns, parts list?

Or 2) a more complete partial kit, fin stock, patterns detail parts (just the guns), nose cone, decals parachute, Kevlar, etc. etc...

Or 3) just a plan set, material list and decals?

Keep in mind that a full blown kit would not be cheap, custom turned parts, and laser cutting cost and that will take time too.

lawndartman 04-29-2011 08:25 AM

Sandman,
For me there is only one way... full blown kit. Your kits are a sight to behold. You should be paid for your work. Custom kits with original designs should be priced accordingly. When you order from the best, you expect to pay more. Make mine a full blown kit, my paypal is locked and loaded. Thanks .... Tim

jetlag 04-29-2011 08:40 AM

Gordy,
#2 'more complete partial kit'

OR

#3 planset with decals and materials list

I need the nose cone and the decals and the materials list. I probably need the little engine tubes at the back and the gun tubes, as well. I can cut the fins and body tube as necessary and supply the 'chute, kevlar, etc.
However, if the price is right, I can get the whole shebang. Could you offer all three choices priced accordingly?
Tim is absolutely correct: Your complete kits are fabulous!

OK, for you but let's hear what everybody else wants first.

I don't want this to be an expensive kit. Expensive kinda takes the fun out of it and this should be a fun model.

I'm not saying I won't do some full blown kits but that's a lot of "stuff" to get together.

OH! another thing.

The original and my new prototype are using the same plastic PNC-60 that the Estes BT-60 sized Patriot uses. I only have a few of those nose cones.

Do you guys want me to see if I can find more for a kit or is balsa OK?

jetlag 04-29-2011 08:56 AM

Either cone for me, Gordy. I can make the balsa cone look like plastic when I'm done, just like a lot of the folks here can, but plastic is easier to finish.
It looks like the gun tube cones are BNC-5W's?

Actually the gun tubes are just something I turned on the lathe from scraps but a BNC-5w's could work but maybe the BNC-3AW or the BNC-2PY would be better.

Getting those from SEMROC would save me a lot of sawdust time!

dlazarus6660 04-29-2011 09:09 AM

Door # 3

I'll take whats behind door #3...option 3 for me, please! Gordy.

sandman 04-29-2011 11:18 AM

In order to make these kits I'm going to have to spend some money. so....

I have some 4 x 24mm Nike Hercules kits left! :D

Just go to my web site in the "Roachwerks Custom Machining Kits" section and click on "Add to Cart". :D

stefanj 04-29-2011 12:03 PM

A balsa cone is fine for me.

I wouldn't mind Semroc-cone based gun pods, either.

No. 3---PLANSET material list and decals works for me.
If you are anything like me, getting to do as many projects before my time is over is more practical-- Spend less time one one to do more stuff-- keep on movin....

Feyd 04-29-2011 08:39 PM

I've been wanting to buy the 4x24mm Nike Ajax since you announced it. Now I have a reason to :-) Order posted!

Got it Thanks.

Now I can order the parts! :D :D :D

Well...some of them.

To save a bit on the kit final price does anybody mind cutting out their own balsa?

Laser cutting would add a good chunk of money to the kit cost.

Les 04-29-2011 10:22 PM

I have no issue with cutting balsa
Reminds me of my old days when I was a kid

pantherjon 04-30-2011 06:52 AM

Ditto, I am not afraid to cut balsa(as long as it is JUST the balsa and not my fingers! :chuckle: )..Option #2 would work for me..:)

I was unable to convince myself for the Nike-Herc... But just to try and help AND show you there are a few TLP people willing to part with their $$$, I placed a TLP decal order for the kits I have that overlap your offerings. My first order... be gentle... :chuckle:

I would like the least expensive option that would still provide the hardest parts turned since I am not experienced in turning wood. :D

WOW! That a lot of TLP kits!

Those can ship Monday morning.

Thanks!

As for the Guinevere...I just ordered the parts Friday!

Well I have 6 others... I'll have to make my own for them! :D As I mentioned elsewhere I like the challenge of their kits! And I wanted to show support for vendors like you.

And to be on topic - I wanted to help make sure AV becomes a kit!

OK, progress!

It took some time to work out the fin patterns and the card stock scallop at the rear.

But I think I got it. Not a perfect reproduction of the original but pretty close.

Hey, it's not like it's scale.

The fin pattern and scalloped were drawn in CAD.

sandman 05-01-2011 08:33 PM

Next came the location of the scallop and windshield.

It took me a while to calculate the length of the body tube at 11".

Followed by gluing on the top fin. The fin gun has been installed already.

I'll do the wings later tonight.

sandman 05-02-2011 10:33 AM

Got the wings on.

Here's a comparison of the old Guinevere and the new one.

Some slight differences but essentially the same.

It aint't scale!

Now like the older Guinevere I went with 1/8" for the fins. The thicker fins give her a
beefier look. More in keeping with the 50's era space ship.

I just may make the upper fin a tad longer.

Les 05-02-2011 07:35 PM

I prefer the look of the right hand photo. The fins are more swept in the rear (but probably more easily broken)

Just my $0.02 worth...

jetlag 05-09-2011 09:08 AM

What's the status, Gordy?

Tubes are cut, patterns are printed, parts are on the way.

I still have to write the instructions.

As soon as I stop coughing up phlegm  I'll try to get started on them.

Sick as I have been feeling I'm sure I'd make a ton of mistakes in the plans. :o

jetlag 05-09-2011 12:12 PM

D'oh!! I forgot you have been under the weather! My apologies.

Actually some kits and sending them all over the country would be a good way to spread this sickness all over the country.

Boy, did I forget something really dumb! :o

I have 8 kits ready, nose cones turned parts sorted...

I freakin' forgot to order bags!!!

DOH!!!

Give me a few more days.

Sorry guys!

Raygun 05-18-2011 06:30 PM

I would be interested in planset and decals only. Can you throw a quote my way?

sandman 05-27-2011 05:59 PM

Kits are now available on my web site.

After the initial round of kits are sold I will make the plans and parts list available.

stefanj 05-27-2011 06:09 PM

I just ordered one!

Thanks for putting the kit together. It's a really neat design, and a logical add-on to those old space opera kits.
