We Have Reached Another Milepost!!!
 

The model count here at BARCLONE has crossed 700 designs, reached this evening (Central Time, USA) by our most-distant contributor, Andrew Scott, from Australia. Thank you, Andrew!

His two entries, Alpha Lancer 16 and Tau Trident are being counted as #700 and #699, respectively.

It should be noted that even as I type this announcement, Andrew has also submitted #701, EPXFL-7.

So, now we look forward to our next milepost of 800 designs, and ultimately to our special target goal of 1000 designs. We have come quite a way since the BARCLONE project was started back in 2003. Many thanks to all of our contributors!

Our NEXT Milepost...
 

...Is a goal of 800 designs for the "BARCLONE Catalog", and if possible, to reach that goal before December 31, 2009. Beyond this, our greater focus is to reach 1000 designs.

We are currently at 702 designs in the Master List, meaning we need another 98 to reach 800.

Overdue Updating
 

Our catalog was stuck at 702 for too long, but thanks to James Pierson, we've been able to add twelve new designs to the catalog. This brings us up to 714, meaning we only need 86 to reach 800. I'm confident we will cross this line in 2010.

Keep in mind, we're creeping up on an incredible number of 1000 designs!

We are now sitting at 743 models in our catalog, thanks to Andrew Scott. Our "magic number" for reaching 800 designs is now just 57, which I think is reasonably possible before June.

Okay...Please don't stone me if this is a silly question...but...are all these kits compiled in some major list???? If so, Where?? Thanks

As for all of the RockSim files to these designs, most of them are found here in the BARCLONE area, in the "Designer's Studio" threads. From 2009 forward, I've been giving each design its own separate thread, but in previous years I used a single long-running thread for the entire year. You'll see these as "locked" threads near the top of the list.

Some of the earliest designs, dating back to 2003, are available on the BARCLONE website . For some time, I've been trying to work up a new layout with new features, but a number of issues seemed to get in the way. My hope is to have a working update before the end of this year.

It's been a while since I last updated this list. Much has been going on here in the BARCLONE 'Lair', just not rocketry. Home maintenance, in the form of reconstruction of a deteriorated outside wall, and the subsequent need for painting (still in-progress) has taken the better part of two months...

Note: It's not the construction, nor the painting, that's taking so long. It's the moving of two tons of furniture and other 'stuff' each time I work on one wall...

Anyway, the list has been updated with all of the 'finished' designs, and we have a new count to announce:

Some designs that were posted did not make the cut, but I think I'm going to post them later. A couple of Jay's 1X re-works are not listed, as well as one of Feyd's.

For everyone, keep up the design work! We're closing in on that target of 800 - we only need 47!

Things seem to have gone a lot slower this year than I thought it would. I felt sure we would have passed the 800 mark by now. But, with James Pierson usually coming through in the bottom of the ninth with his "12 Designs" series, I'm sure we'll reach it before the end of the year. :D

With the posting of "Lil' Leaguer" we reached our immediate goal of having 800 designs in our catalog. It took a while to get the last hundred, longer than I thought it would. Now we can look forward to our next set of goals.

We still have the issue of getting a website revision, where all of these designs can be found and the plans downloaded easily. I've tried various methods of cobbling a set of pages together, but the scope of the work is far larger than what a few pages of PHP can do. We're talking MySQL database programming here. I haven't given up, I've just dropped back to get a better perspective of how to proceed.

A second goal is a PDF catalog, using the RockSim 3D imagery as the illustrations. Again, not a simple project, but certainly easier than a website.

Reaching the 900- and then the 1000-model-count mileposts will be major goals. How many designs did Estes produce in the fifty-year span from 1960 to 2010? I haven't taken a full count, but even the 2009 Extended Kit List has fewer than 900 entries, and some of those are duplicates. Reaching 900 will give us more designs than Estes even after subtracting the obvious upscales and downscales.

Master Catalog Count Revision
 

This audit of the catalog has uncovered quite a few previously-missed designs. As I go through the list with the proverbial fine-toothed-comb, I have located entries for 856 models. That's 43 more than was previously recognized. Some of these are revisions of previous designs, but with enough changes to justify calling them a 'new' design.

If links to plan files can be created for all of these designs, then our 'magic number' for achieving 900 is down to 44. I think we can reach that goal before August.

The deeper I dig, the more designs keep popping their heads up from the depths. I now have entries for 867 designs, only a few of which look like they may be duplicates or updated originals.

If this count holds, then our 'magic number' drops to 33...

"You might be a redneck if... you cut the grass and find a car lot..."

It was really getting time to cut the grass around here. I've been locating a bunch of models hiding in the tall grass here in BARCLONELAND. The list count has jumped up to 881 designs, most of which had valid links to RKT files and JPG images. There may be a small handful that get removed in the end, but far, far less than I thought there would be.

If this running total holds, then the 'magic number' has dropped to 19...

Can we reach 900 by the end of March? Earlier?

How long does anyone think it will be before we reach 1000? :eek:
