Astrocam Camroc Carrier booster

I remember seeing plans someplace, possibly AMspam/ Model Rocketeer/ Sport Rocketry for a Astrocam booster styled after the vintage Camroc Carrier rocket.

Anyone recall this ? ( and know where to point me, either online plan, magazine issue, napkin drawing, whatever ) ?

Thanks for any help .

( I have an Astrocam camera, sanded to fit into BT55, that I;ve been flying for years on the top of an old 'crunched and cobbled together' Astron Bandit .. thinking to 'restore' the Bandit, and therfor would need a new Astrocam booster .. and since I'm a purist , lol..... )

I loved my old Camroc Carrier and would relish the chance to build one again. I never actually had a Camroc, but I launched quite a few items in that payload compartment. I'd be interested to get a kit or the separate parts to build one again.

Here's the plans on Jim Z's site

It's also known as EIRP #60... This appears to be the earliest published version.

Thanks for the info , and links .

however..... the original Camroc ( and hence carrier ) transition out to a BT60 dia.

the Astrocam is BT55 ( actually ST13 ) dia.

I don' t think it would be too hard to modify the shroud to go to 1.325" instead of 1.637" - especially with one of the shroud generator programs ( need to download one of those myself ) .

problem then - is the base of the Astrocam, which is BT55 ( mine is now, due to sanding it down ) - so I would need a BT55 section at top of the booster ( inside the shroud ) to fit the camera shoulder into ..... ideas ?

will ticker with it some, but I still was certain someone had done this and published a plan, so trying to (1) not reinvent the wheel, and (2) be able to say I have one more 'plan built' , instead of just scratchbuilding, lol.

no rush, just thought someone here might remember the article,.. will try over on the old rocket list as well, see if I can rattle some cobwebs...

Since the CC used a BT-50 as the core, you'll need a couple of CR-5055 rings at the top end. One ring right at the edge, and the second about 1/2" to 3/4" below that. Take a short length of BT-55, equal to the length of the AstroCam shoulder plus the distance between the rings (plus maybe 1/8" for good measure...), and slide this over the two rings until the bottom edge of the BT-55 is even with the lower ring. Now, take that shroud as printed on the plans, slide it up from the bottom until it fully touches the bottom of the BT-55, and simply trim away the excess. You don't need to re-engineer that shroud, just shorten it up. Probably not more than 1/4" of length. Now glue the shroud in place and add the fins, motor mount, recovery hardware, lugs, etc. Voila! Astrocam Carrier!

I had a Camroc Carrier when I was in high school. I never had a Camroc to fly either but I really enjoyed building that rocket and the way it looked. I was in a rocket club and we flew from the high school parking lot and mine got caught up on the high power lines and I never did get it back.

First {and last} time I flew it too .....

That design looks like it would make a good eggloft carrier (replace the clear payload section/nosecone with a Pratt/CMR style egg capsule)....

Have to say when I saw the title of this thread I thought you all were talking about the
Astron Delta two stage Camroc booster (I'd like to build a clone of that, too)....

That looks about like what I recall, still not sure where I saw it printed.

Have that saved and will likely follow something along those lines, thanks.

If you run acrossed anything else, lmk .... course in the meantime, might have to add an original 'carrier' to the que, I have a couple vintage PNC60, just need to hunt down a clear tube, hmm...

No need. I would put a piece of 1/2 thick foam rubber cut to the diameter of the tube both above and below a small egg. I never had a broken egg.
