Full Fuse R/C X-15 rocket glider
I just finished this and got some flights on E-20 and F-24 motors, I had to have a custom plug and mold made to make 4" cones the right shape and meet 3.5 oz so I did not require any CG, wing loading is heavier than I would have liked but it flies and boosts nicely and glides somewhat better than a real X-15.....scale speed is about Mach 2.4

A F-15 does 2.4 easy. A clean F-4 could.
That's a bit shy of Mach 5. Better UP the power. :D My 1/11 scale RC F-4 does a bit better than scale top speed at 150mph. |
This is modeling Ed White's May 19th 1960 flight to mach 2.31

Hey Frank, Love your gliders! Quick question, on big models like this one do you use bigger/stronger servers or do the micros you typically use for the E6 powered rockets have enough strength? |
I use hitec hs65hb servos for all my models
Even the bigger G powered models I Fly, we have plenty of power and speed on a 1S battery and weigh 10 grams. mostly I use them because they have good centering where the cheaper servos sometimes dither or don't center very well. Quote:

Thanks for the quick reply; R/C equipment has really changed in the last 20-years! |
You can get REALLY strong servos in really small packages now.
Especially if you run them at 6v. |
