Allen,

The price on the Astron Cobra seems a little low seeing as that version (skill level) is rarest.
Have been hunting for that one for years and would have bought this one if I was in town...would have went at least $200.

SkyDart price seems reasonable to a little high.

Vostok price MORONICALLY high as this is not that rare and is a profile-fin TURD of a model not worth $50 let alone $150. Somebody got REALLY SUCKERED on this one.

Trident is normal as this is the skill level packaging and was produced the least years.

Semi-Scale Saturn V version that sold is rarer than the more-produced skill level kit, but in no way is worth the CRACK-HEADED INSANELY high price of nearly $400.

Have no idea on Sprite price as I have never seen that version facecard. I do know that the rarest Astron Sprite is the 13mm "T" motor mini-brute version that actually used a BT-5 motor mount in the standard Astron Sprite that was originally for 18mm "S" motors.
That one I think was only around for 1972 or 1973.

With the prices that were paid here on the highest ones, the person better plan to hold them for at least 25 years to have them appreciate a worthwhile amount.

I guess, since I really can't justify shelling out all those $ for a Trident or a Skydart, those prices seemed a bit rare to me. You are right about the Sprite, too; I had not been aware of that face card, either.
Sorry you missed the Cobra! I would have bid on it for ya had I known you needed/wanted one! I'll keep an eye out, anyway!

I remember a few years ago, I tried to buy a 66 Estes catalog, there was some fellow out there, can't remember his handle, but was buying up every Estes catalog that hit ebay, no matter what the price, not sure what that was all about, anybody else here know what I'm talking about?

YES

I don't remember his ebay name, but, from what I was told from a friend of his, he has three complete collections of EVERY Estes catalog.

I was bidding against him many times, just couldn't compete, as you said "Money was no object" He must have spent a fortune on catalogs alond. I was also told that this was an investment for his kids college fund. He just went away, i guess he ended up in the poor house.

Hi;

Great info. on kits 9details etc.) I'm just learning about all the kits I collected these past 6+ years. Now I can check if they are worth some big money I paid.

Seems all the info. is available here for seeing what kits are rare etc.

I collect catalogs, and I do remember that. I wanted a 1966, since it was the first full color catalog. I figured I'd never get one, and this particular bidder was getting everything I wanted. I fianlly got one last year in excellent condition for around $20. The mystery bidder must have finally run out of money. :)

Wow! For an open box, rusty deflector and all....

$500!!! Is this excessive? Someone wanted one REALLY bad. Sorry I wasn't the guy who sold it!

IMHO the guy paid about $400 too much!

I got my Semi Scale Saturn V for 118.00 bucks, that does not seem too bad when compared to 350 and 288. I do agree, 400 bucks for a used rocket seems a tad bit too high, but then yet most people would think 118.00 dollars for a Saturn rocket is too much.

Silly man - it was over last Summer!

The prices on collectible rockets has been boggling of late. Especially with some ebay collector's that go on a jag. Last September there was one buyer that snapped up anything that came up. I actually Googled the shipping address expecting to find some McMansion, but no, just an ordinary Joe with a passion.

The eventual buyer was the first bid at $10. So in this case you are spot on - for whatever reason competition trumped logic. Unless it was a box art buy.

Nah, this is a collector(s). Of the first four noted in the lead post the same buyer won the Vostok, Skydart, and Trident. They missed the Cobra by $2.50. Another bidder also won the Saturn V and the Sprite. Noteworthy is that the winner on the first three also just missed the Sprite and Saturn V. The winner of the Saturn V and the Sprite just missed the Skydart.

So two collectors were responsible for the purchase or price rise of five of these items. I just hope that Bruce gets his $900.
