Centuri Argus KB-9 Dimensions
Does anyone have tube lengths and diameters for this kit? The scans currently on the web don't have a parts list.
I'm guessing on these diameters: Lower body -- ST-13 (A given, since we're using the Eliminator fin can...) Mid body -- ST-8 (Looks too small to be the ST-10, but too large to be ST-7) Upper body -- ST-7 Thanks...

A question I can answer! --*Kind* of...

Back in the day, I had a Centuri Argus, so I can confirm your body tube diameters first-hand. That's because I know for a *fact* that the Argus used the PSR-78 and 813 plastic reducers (as well as what we *now* call the Eliminator fin can). So, courtesy of Ray Dunakin III, who sent me some Centuri PNC-89's, as well as an apparently oddball BNC-50-something or other (Honest John?)... You'll see the aforementioned reducers pictured below with a PNC-71, *and* the real, live, *ORIGINAL* ST-7 from an *ACTUAL* Centuri Argus. BTW, the ST-7 is 7" long. The ST-13 looks much longer than a typical ST-138 (8" long), maybe 10"? And the ST-8 might be something like 5"... But that's just guessing from the picture on this link at JimZ: http://www.dars.org/jimz/cen5309.htm That's the best I can do. Cheers, --Jay

Can you get me the lengths of those plastic parts? Carl's balsa equivalents are 0.875" for the BR-78 reducer, 1.7" for the BR-813 reducer, and 1" for the BC-710 nose cone, but he has alternates of slightly shorter and slightly longer lengths... Quote:
Carl has an ST-855 tube, which is 5.5" long. Can you measure that tube length and see if it is exactly 5", or 5.5"? Here's my point: The catalog says 28.5" for the length. Using Carl's stock components -- BC-710...........1.000" ST-770...........7.000" BR-78............0.875" ST-855...........5.500" BR-813...........1.700" ST-13130........13.000" ...I come up with a length of 29.075", which is bloody close! We're talking about a difference of just over 0.5", and not enough for me to really worry about except for trying to match the original as closely as possible. Carl has the BR-813P, which is only 1.500" long, and this would reduce the length to 28.875"... I could live with this amount of discrepancy, since we know that not all catalog lengths were 100% accurate. Maybe this will help others wanting to build the Argus, too...

Jay's spin on the Argus
Quote:
The specific parts you'll want are the BC-710, BR-78, and the BR-813P, since those parts exactly correspond to their counterparts' measurements. (I told Carl that his 1.7" BR-813 was *not* the same length as a PSR-813! ) Quote:

I've got a bunch of parts collected for this project, right down to the inkjet decals I made in 2002.
All I have to do is find them.........

Hi guys! This is my first post! I'm in the process of finishing an Argus clone (I have an original I built in 1976 that still flies), and I know this is an old post, but my two are the exact same and here's what I used: BC-710...........1.000" ST-770...........7.000" BR-78............0.875" ST-855...........5.500" BR-813P...........1.500" ST-13120........12.000" I had to sand the BR-813P balsa reducer some to get the taper to match the original plastic one. I used the fin kit from the Estes Eliminator. 10" chute for nose cone, 12" for main body. Got all my parts from Semroc... -lee |

So, after three years, five months, and two weeks (but who's counting... ) did you ever find them?

Welcome, Lee! You made a good bump for this thread. Thanks! Looks like I need to get back to some kit-bashing and build one, now that I've got a pair of those fin cans on the shelf.
