Happy Thanksgiving to you as well, and thank you for measuring the roll pattern! (This is actually like "early Christmas" to me...) :-) For completeness' sake, I've also e-mailed your measurements (with acknowledgement to you) to Gordon (sometimes the YORF system doesn't send me reply notice e-mail messages until a lot of people have replied to postings).

Happy Thanksgiving, Gordon;

Concerning the decal, I'll add that the Canaroc logo lies on top of a white underlay; that may not be so obvious from the scan. The Orion font looks like Bauhaus 93, or at least a related derivative.

Best of luck with the draw, and I look forward to seeing the decal up on your website!

I just ordered three of them! What type/shade of red spray paint (enamel and/or acrylic) do you recommend to match the red portions of the Orion decals?

One other consideration: the CANAROC catalog illustration of the Orion http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/ca...c80/80can6.html (compared with the scan of the reproduction Orion decal sheet on Gordon's web site) suggests that the entire forward section of the rocket (including the nose cone) is spray-painted red, and then the roll pattern decal is applied over the red-painted section, with equal-length portions of red tube above and below the roll pattern. What is the length of this red-painted section of the body tube? Also, what shade/type of red spray paint (enamel and/or acrylic) best matches the red portions of the roll pattern decal?

Jason;

A couple of points here. First, the kit instructions provide no instruction for masking the livery depicted on the face card (which is the same as the catalog depiction). So one will have to guess-timate this from the illustration.

Second, and this is a little more tricky, the roll pattern on the decal sheet is red and clear, not red and white. So this means that a white area has to be masked off for the eventual placement of the roll pattern decal. The only items with a white underlay on the decal sheet are the Canaroc logos, as mentioned previously.

As for the shade of red, ah, my friend - you go to far. That's a little like asking how long is a piece of string? This is best determined by each individual modeler!

Hope this helps;

James, you have already ordered the decals but I will make the changes (eliminating the white stripes between the red) but...

The catalog sheet shows the "Orion" in white on one fin????

The scan I got does not show this. I will add a white "orion" with shooting star before I print.

We know it's difficult to scale off a drawing that is orthographic and be very precise. But, taking the information John provided that the roll pattern is 8.9 cm in length, I can roughly estimate that the measurement you come up with in the catalog can be multiplied by somewhere between 2.6 and 2.69 to come up with a full size dimension. Using this approach, the forward red section of the BT would be about 1.6 cm and the rear section about 2.2 cm. Since they should be about the same size (for symmetric sake), add the 2.2 and 1.6 together and divide by 2. So, a dimension of 1.9 cm shouldn't be too far off.

As for the shade of red, I'd wait to see what I got from Gordon and then try to match that. Or, you can use 5 mm wide tape and mask off the white areas and paint your own roll patterns matching red. I do believe that you can buy trim tape in a 5 mm width.
