Default Speaking of 1340's..

I'm very sad to report the loss of my Enerjet 1340/20 clone. I built this one back in 1996/97 with nothing more than a black and white photo in The Handbook to go by. Numerous flights and quite a few times that I almost lost it.
This flight was out on the Oregon coast in Neskowin. It was aimed out over the water into the wind, but for some reason it decided to head inland with the wind as soon as it left the launch rod. It came down in a very thick area of trees and brush. Motor was a Estes E9-6. 'Course it's only a rocket, and I'll build another one, but I hate losing a rocket that I've had for such a long time.

Thank you, Your Benevolence, sir!

It *was* getting a little long in the tooth (kinda like me) - scrapes, chips, pieces of decal missing, etc. Just the usual road-rash, but it was a great flyer.

The best ones get that road-rash as "badges of honor" !

Too bad about the loss of your 1340/20 clone ..... I always liked that one!

I built two of the 1340/20 clones and lost one of them in October 2007 at the HPR field in Winnsboro, LA. I mourned the loss too but the flight was outstanding!

If you decide to build another 1340/20 model, let me know. I have spare parts to build at least a few more I could dig out something if you need it. I may be out of the vinyl EnerJet logos though I'd have to check. I do have some water-slide EnerJet logos though and the self-adhesive monokote trim.

Nice lift off shot of your model though. Looked great!

Thanks for the complements and the offer, Steve. I have 3 or 4 Long Shots and a couple or 3 Eggspress' stored away, so I've got plenty of parts. Who knows - I may even build those two as they were intended one day. I *do* like the lines of the Long Shot. I also have the Enerjet decals, some from Fred and some from JimZ, so I'm all set there as well. If I remember correctly, you painted your fin can red: is that original to the kit? As mentioned I only had a BW photo to go by, so I had to guess. Did you use fluorescent, flat or gloss?

OK, now I'm excited. I'm going to have to start building tonight.

Thanks, Bill.
It sorta has that "Sorry For Your Loss" sympathy card look to it,
don't it?

The attached pic is one of the first flights (maybe *the* first flight) at a CMASS launch in Amesbury, 1998 or 99 I think.

Yes.

+1 on the liftoff photos.

If you are going to get "scale photos" you are going to need motors with little to no smoke. EJ motors used Flexane as a binder and IIRC only 200 micron AP.

Well, I have a couple of old AT E10's ( pre-'W', with the internal nozzles) around here somwhere. That might do the trick.
