Can't go wrong with the Semroc Saturn 1B.
I would suggest you order the Apogee 1/70 capsule kit from Apogee though to replace the capsule supplied by Semroc in the kit. The Apogee capsule/tower is EASY to assemble styrene plastic and is FAR more true-scale than the Semroc capsule. The Semroc capsule/tower, while true to the original Estes 1/70 capsule, is very tedious to build with bunches of fiddly bits of cardboard and hand cut & shaped wooden dowels. The Semroc tower is what I'd call a borderline nuisance in that you get a tower that looks ten times better from Apogee with 1/10 the effort to build ! When building the Semroc Saturn 1B, go for the SINGLE 24mm mount, NOT the 4x18mm cluster mount. Far LESS hassle to fly on a single composite E15, E30, E18, E28, or F24 than clustering 4xC6-5.

Agree the Semroc is a great kit. Depending on your experience level, plan to spend some time building the kit. It doesn't go together like 90% of the rocket kits out there. The detail is awesome and much like the Dr. Zooch kit, you build much of it. The difference is the level of detail. If you are looking to fly quicker....get the Zooch.
But I have to say, I'm a little dissapointed in you SoopirV...you are supposed to realize the right answer is to get both!

Better yet, the answer should be "I'm going to pick up these THREE Saturns..."

Hey Jerry, What is it that makes the Sirius model better then the Apogee model ? I have one of the Apogee 1B models and it is pretty nice. I would imagine the Apogee Sat-5 is similiar in quality. Have never seen the Sirius model, it is larger at 1/64th scale however it is another $80 roughly ?

The Sirius kit is larger, which costs more, and does have even more detail.
I'm debating right now which to order.

I'd like to see a build thread on either! Greg |

Do you need to alter the build any to use these? Have you used them? Is one better for the 1B than the other? |

Only thing that put me off on the Sirius kit, besides the cost (NICE kits are expensive, after all) was that I would need to be at least a level one to launch it Hi-Power. If I built that thing to that level of detail, I don't think I could bare to launch it.
I go thru the G's. That's it. Anything else is just too expensive right now. It is a magnificent kit, though. But the Apogee Sat V is, too, and I don't need a level one to launch it! UC, the E15 is a more 'gentle' launching motor; the E30 has a little more punch to it. I like both! Allen |

I have used ALL of the motors I suggested in my Semroc Saturn 1B.
The E15 and E30 are single use motors. The E18 and E28 are their RMS24 reloadable equivalents. The F24 is a 50n-sec baby "F" which is another 24mm RMS24 reload; there is no single-use equivalent. Think of that one as a full "E" plus an Estes "C" in total impulse. The F24 Flies a little higher than a cluster of four Estes C motors. The F32T is a single use motor that is Estes "E" length that one could use with 1" sticking below the mount providing one keeps the CG correct. That should not be a problem as the F32 still weighs less than 4 Estes C engines. Don't try using the Aerotech F39 RMS24 reload though...it does not come in a suitable delay; the shortest available is the F39-6T, which is too long. Don't bother trying to fly it on a single Estes D12-3. It may only hit about 125' which in my book is NEVER a safely recoverable altitude. Don't even think about an Estes E9 either. Not enough thrust for stable flight. The MINIMUM acceptable motor is the D15-4T RMS24 load. Might hit 160-170'
