Absolutely, and it will be its first flight. The kid who originally put this one together put the engine hooks at the outside of each motor tube, then glued the motor mount in place (it was supposed to be removeable). So he couldn't put any motors in, LOL. turns out that was a good thing because he also glued the centering ring just ahead of the motor tubes in off center so the gaps between the motor tubes weren't filled. If he had been able to launch he would have lawn darted because all the ejection charge would have come out the back.

I found this rocket mixed in with a bunch of other stuff I got in an ebay auction . I don't usually go after rockets to restore but this one was so rare that I really wanted to bring it back to life.

To me, though, it won't be complete until it flies.

The only real question is do I launch an egg on the first flight?

Steve

Just wanted to post a much better picture. Really came out nice.

This photo also includes the Egg Crate fin decals Excelsior reproduced from the scans I made. These never appeared in any of the catalog photos so I am curious how many were included with the kit. The rocket I got also had two small "Centuri" orange logo decals placed on the payload compartment.

If anybody has an original built model, an original set of decals, or an original kit, please post any additional info you have.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,
Did you ever launch your Egg Crate ?
I still have not launched my Enerjet or Centuri Egg Crate clones.

No, Scott, just a bunch of very interesting random parts. Oddly, the boxes contained an appropriate nosecone for the Egg Crate but it is ever so slightly different (a tidge more bulbous) than the cone on my restored Egg Crate (pic below). Box also had comlete printed fin sets from a number of Centuri rockets and some random Centuri decals but no instructions or tubes from most of the kits. Previous owner picked up the boxes from an elderly couple at a flea market. Why someone would have saved the fins sets and decals from kits but gotten rid of the instructions and tubes I can't really understand. I will sort through the fins and other decals to see what YORF is missing and I will send them along.

Cool thread, nice build! The page 26 catalog photo most closely resembles the actual nose cone shape I remember. We used to sell those NC as spare parts at Claremont Rocket Society. We had a full inventory of all Centuri product. It was like heaven.

I have some of those original Centuri nosecones and they are of the more rounded tip variety (bulbous) like your unpainted one above.
