Default Saturn 1B Launch Pics

We put my son's Semroc Saturn 1B up today. It was a nice maiden flight on a single D12-3. We debated on first flight with a cluster, but common sense prevailed as we wanted to keep the success probability as high as possible.

Since these are usually common questions, that we and others have asked:

His Saturn has built up fins.
Tanks were painted separately.
Rear assembly and 2nd stage were also painted separately and assembled near completion of the model.
He used a removable motor mount similar to Foose4string's.
He painted and decaled based on Semroc's plans, but used a template from the old Centuri kit to cut some silver trim monocote for the service module.
Added a baffle by punching holes in the top of the motor mount tube and in the top of one of the centering rings. The only part added was a disk to seal the top of the motor mount tube.

Very nice, Tim. Kudos to Intruder.

What do you mean by "built-up fins"?

Thanks.

Semroc ships the kit with two fin choices, solid balsa fins and the original Estes design, which is a balsa framework and cardstock skin construction. I usually just call them "built up" for short.

Excellent pictures!! What kind of camera did you use. Must be one that advances to the next frame very quickly. Gotta love the Saturns!

That's my favorite, also. Blue sky and on it's way up. You can see a little of the reflected motor glow in the bottom of the motor well. Very cool.

Thanks guys. I have a Nikon D80 with the rocket shooting lens....Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8.

We've been back out for another flight, this time clustering three C6's. I'll get the photos up in a few minutes.
