The passenger door on those Pacer's were longer than the driver's door. By 3" if I recall correctly.

That thing couldn't "pace" a horse race.

Nothing some custom frame/suspension replacements and an LS or Coyote couldn't fix.

The AMX and the Javelin weren't oddballs....they were true muscle cars of the era.

Can't speak for the Gremlins you all might have driven/ridden in, but mine was sweet with a 5-liter V-8 under the hood. Drove quite nicely.

Some of them even had AMC 401's in them. They were still junk POS vehicles.
AMX/Javelin included in that group. Complete and total POS vehicles.

The Coyote engine is produced in two Ford facilities; the Acme and Ajax plants. Both are prone to malfunction at the most inopportune times.

All jokes aside, even though I'm a GM fan, the Coyote is a really good high rpm engine, but it is a little light on cubic inches.

The guy was friendly and answered a few questions. And WOW he had a Pacer, which looked like a futuristic bubble-topped car out of a sci-fi movie.

When he loaded up his plane when he was done flying I saw that most of the bed was full of boxes of diapers. I realized that he probably was enjoying a few minutes of freedom with his old passtime before heading back to a house with a screaming baby.

Funny, how what seemed like a futuristic car now looks utterly ludicrous.

My neighbors had one when I was in high school. All I remember about it was riding home from a football game with four of us in the back seat and not feeling squashed at all. They weren't kidding when they said the wide small car.

Dad had found a Ford Futura that he wanted me to look at on the lot of an old AMC dealership. Ugly cussed thing. Pale yellow with a red, white and black plaid interior. I had no interest, but there was a Javelin at the end of the lot that really caught my eye. It was purple, black interior, 304 3-speed. They apparently thought little of it because the door was open and the keys were in the ignition. I sat in it and fired it up, something that took a bit of patience. It cranked, but it was depressingly tired. The drivers side floor was suspiciously spongy, and despite the cool factor, I knew that it would be a lateral move from my Duster. Same car. Different manufacturer. The next day I made a deal for a four year old Horizon. Never forgot that Jav, though.
