I have her all sealed with Brodak Primer and a coat of grey primer. Next will be the fun task of masking and painting.

Very nice work. Are you familiar with Tamiya brand masking tape?
The P-40 is also topnotch. If you want to build a squadron of P-40 variants drop me a p/m . I have a bunch of them. |

That is the tape I used and it has always worked great.

I have the F-16 all painted and in the next few days begin adding the decals. I used Testors little spray cans for all the colors. Testors is my favorite spray paint but due the cost I normally don't use it for my rockets.

Your build has encouraged me to start my F-61.
Did you topcoat it a gloss light blue ? I always thought it was supposed to be a USAF gray.

Interesting. A lot of products with high VOC content are going away, or at least only available online. Our Walmart used to carry Duplicolor Primer in the Automotive Dept., but no longer. I'll probably just order the Brodak Sealer based on your tests. I checked our HobbyTown and they had no Brodak, but had two bottles of AeroGloss. Looked like they had them for a long time, based on condition of labels on the jars. I'm beginning to think these stores only sell quadcopters and RC stuff. Very poor selection of products for the builder.

The instructions say the bottom is light blue and the topside is grey.

Well, I wouldn't judge ANYTHING by Walmart availability (or lack thereof). Walmart and the other big box stores are eliminating a LOT of stuff in order to simplify their stocking and ordering system-- why offer three different brands of yellow glue or white glue or paint or whatever if you can just offer one or two... so of course it's going to be either the cheapest or the best seller, period. Everything else is OUT. They figure (and probably rightly so about 95% of the time) that people are too stupid to know the difference between a lacquer, enamel, or water-based product anyway (after all, THEY usually don't!) Same thing with different glue formulations-- after all, glue is glue, right?? Heck even the Lowe's doesn't stock Titebond Moulding and Trim Wood GLue (no run, no drip formula) and only stocks TB1 and 2, and Elmer's. That's it. Glue is glue, right? LOL I just shake my head at that one, because they're a friggin' LUMBERYARD/HARDWARE store and SHOULD have all the different types of glue available... but no, they'd rather only carry a couple (and thus have fewer SKU numbers in their system to keep track of), and less stocking and reorders to handle and all that... they've have a shelf with fifteen rows of bottles of the SAME GLUE but not ONE BOTTLE of the stuff you REALLY want... and that goes for practically EVERYTHING in there... You want the "good paint" you have to go to an auto supply store or industrial supply... WM just won't cut it... (unless you're getting the cheap "Colorplace" stuff which DOES work well if you know how to use it and adapt to it... certainly better than that gawdawful Krylon crap they put out now). Same thing with MOST hobby shops now... unless it's a "high dollar, high margin" product that they can sell a boatload of, they're not interested in carrying it. That leaves out all the little "cheapy" stuff that builder's need... which is getting them more money?? Stocking dozens of different sizes and types of low-cost supplies for builders needing "this or that" for a few bucks each, or stocking a handful of high-dollar drones or whatever that take about 3 minutes to put out on the shelf for display and cost a couple hundred bucks or more each, in that same shelf space?? Kind of a no-brainer, even if it IS rather self-defeating in the end anyway from a business standpoint... OH well... Later! OL J R

I was able to finish my F-61 rocket adding the vintage old decals. As always the decals were a challenge because of age but the Testors decal solutions really helped out.

That turned out really Super The catalog picture never really caught my eye but following this build has given me a better appreciation. (now I need one)
On another note I ordered the Brodak sealer and used it - I am sold on it. |
