That sort of information is nice, but it's not a plan.

I think some may have missed the point I was trying to make.

A rocket plan has all the information and data that one needs to build a rocket. Dimensional data, patterns, scans, drawings... that sort of thing. Print it. Read it. Scrounge around and/or create your parts, and build that rocket.

This is a plan - Aerodart. I can read this and figure out how to clone an Aerodart.

This is a partial plan - Jaguar. Excellent information, but no dimensional data. Can't build.

Get it?

I get it.
So my question to you is what did you save ?
Do you have a PLAN or PLANS? Fin Patterns, Drawing etc.

If in some way dimensional information for SEMROC part numbers can be archived, then the SEMROC 'instruction' PDFs could certainly be used as a 'plan'. Each of their part numbers in the kit instruction PDFs 'expoded view' could be looked up against their parts database and you would have all the dimensions needed (except maybe fin dimensions and embossed wraps, etc.) to build that particular kit.

Not perfect, but certainly would be very valuable to archive.

Yes, just like the old Estes Parts Catalog came in so handy. Not so lucky with the Centuri kits. I know that I'll be making some measurements of what kits I have and recording them. Scans of fin sheets too. But I don't have them all.... hence I created this thread.

Cheat. (It's my favorite coping strategy! )

If you know the body diameter and overall length of the model from a catalog listing, you can probably draw a good approximation of the fins. It won't be perfect, but most of us, looking at the result on the pad, would not see any difference from a perfectly cloned kit.

K'Tesh over at TRF pointed out the obvious to me. So this thread has created another Mr. Oblivious (me) for not noticing the obvious.

Best thing is to grab the RockSim files. You can generate the fin templates from those. I use OpenRocket and know that I can import a RockSim file and do the same thing. All dimensional data is there too. I suppose that the traditional "plans" (re: JimZ and YORP) are old school. With the file you get a lot of data, except for an image of the decals. No brainer - duh.

The info is still on the Semroc site, even for out-of-stock kits that can't be directly linked to within the site. Google is your friend there. Happy downloading....

Thanks, Wolf. That pretty well sucked up my Sunday afternoon for the kits I could think of that I wanted data on. . . .
