The glide balance point for me ended up to be 7 and 5/8 inches from the aft end. I wish I had brought my modeling blade with me to adjust the trim tabs. All I had was my pocket knife....again, I was expecting to add nose weight.

Anyway, I think I've got an adequate glide. At speed, it stays horizontal. Once it starts loosing speed though, she falls out of the air. Also, to induce a turn, I've trimmed one trim tab a little more so I get a little more up elevator on that side, inducing a turn to the left. Can't do too much or it will roll on you. Anyway, here are some pics of it at least in the air...... If it's nice next weekend, we'll see how it does under boost.

Great job, Don. Looking forward to a flight report.
Oh yea, I'm back from OKC. At work now, playing "catch up."

Buzz, this is going to be interesting. Can't wait to hear how this r/c will work on this bird.

Elevons and linkages installed. Need to finish with the motor mount and then check the balance with different receivers and battery packs.

Oh, and while I've been waiting for glue to dry I built my Squire. Cool bird.

Default I launched mine......

And it was not a pretty site. I believe this rocket will be best flown with an RC outfit. I had to add weight to the rear of the rocket to get a good (well, let's say space shuttle good) glide. As I feared, this caused the rocket to be unstable under boost. At least this is my best explanation for the loops.

A second theory is that the clips holding the flaps down slipped off under power. I like this theory because the rocket loops were a lifting action on the nose consistent with the flaps raising to the elevated position. However, I could not find the clips on the ground in the area where the rocket became unstable, nor in the area where the ejection charge occured, not were they attached to the boost pod. No where. So I really can't prove this theory.

Although the rocket took a pounding, it is salvagable. The body tube is embedded about 2 inches into on side of the nose cone but undamaged. I'll just pull the nose cone off and make whatever repairs it needs. Maybe try a second flight with some tape holding the tabs in place. The ejection charge should still pull them free. The boost pod was blown about 50 feet from the rocket (which was on the ground when the ejection charge blew).

Anyone interested in seeing the movie, PM me with an email. It's over 4 meg.

F25-6......way too long of a delay but the only other motor I had was an F42 and I wanted to use the lower average thrust.
