Hello All,

Being curious about what our good friends in the Islamic Republic of Iran are up to in the rocketry department, I came across this interesting web site (see: http://www.b14643.de/Spacerockets_1...gar-4/index.htm ) by a German rocketry buff that contains photographs and drawings of Iranian sounding rockets and the missiles from which they are derived. Their paint schemes are certainly more garish than what NASA or our armed services would ever use! The rest of his web site (see the main page here: www.b14643.de/Spacerockets_1/index.htm ) is a cornucopia of scale data and historical information on rockets and missiles from all over the world!

I just have one question - when an Iranian rocket explodes or otherwise fails.....what imaginative way will they find to blame us? After all, the USA is the cause of all of their problems anyway.

I used to have a LOT of Agni II missile references off the Bharat Rakshak website, which even went into Indian nuclear warhead designs and their manueverable Reentry Vehicle design (Agni II's RV is somewhat manueverable, as seen by the tail fins on it-- it can trim it's attitude to extend the range by "gliding" or can fool defense systems by appearing to be heading for a target at longer range and then suddenly DIVE on a target much closer) but it appears that most of that stuff is gone from the Bharat Rakshak website...

Indeed it does--Thank You! Charles P. Vick's Taepodong drawings even include a drawing of the launch pad, gantry, and flame duct! The FAS (Federation of American Scientists) Ghauri link doesn't work, but all of the others do. The first stages of India's Agni I, Agni II, and Agni-TD use their indigenously-manufactured version of the American LTV Scout's Algol motor (originally used as the first stage in their SLV-3 and as the first [strap-on] and second stages of their ASLV satellite launch vehicle, and it still serves as a strap-on booster for their PSLV). The Chinese page gave me pause--I didn't know that they have that many different varieties of both land-based and submarine-based ballistic missiles; they obviously want to deter and influence *someone*...

I think the Agni II is just about the coolest looking IRBM since the Pershing II. I want to make a BT-80 version of one when I get around to it...

Agreed! The Agni II's maneuverable re-entry vehicle also has possibilities for such a model, such as a micro-R/C system to allow simulation of its "feint long trajectory-sudden dive" flight profile (and then deployment of a streamer before impact).

These "proliferation" missiles probably aren't a good development for the world. But they are technically interesting for rocket buffs.

I've been reading some lately about these types of missiles. Apparently, China values the ability to deter Russia as much as the USA.

BTW, if you do an image search for "ghauri" you certainly get more than you bargained for.
