Downdraft sanding box
While cleaning out my garage I found an old vacuum former I had and no longer used. Instead of throwing it away I used it for sanding my Estes Stinger fins, and it worked great. I hooked up the shop vac and sanded away with no dust, nice clean working area. I then applied some Elmers thinned wood filler on a scap balsa and sanded away, once again did a great job of catching the dust. I don't use wood filler and one of the reasons was because of the big mess it makes when sanding, well this fixes that problem.

What a great idea! I may try to rig something like that up.

I've seen a lot of variants of this in the woodworking magazines and forums for use with orbital and belt sanders. They work very well in keeping dust down.
