Centuri 1966 Catalog
Ebay auction for Centuri 1966 Catalog
OK, not even Ninfinger has one of these. Why is it so rare? And the listing indicates this is the purple cover. Were there any other colors? |

Probably the 66 was purple but essentially the same as the 65 which was orange and the 64 which was a darker orange. Similarly the 67 was nearly identical to the 68 catalog, except for some price changes, corrections, and slight changes in graphics and spot color to make things more readable.

I have a purple 1966 Centuri catalog.
I don't know if it's any more 'rare' than any other mid-1960s model rocket catalog. I'll have to ask Lee Piester about it, someday...

I no longer have mine but my '66 was orange just like the '65

I would call this catalog scarce rather than rare. The color of the cover can vary from orange to purple-ish.............I have seen both. The color variation could arise from different printings or, as I suspect, from the way the catalog was stored for so many years (UV light can significantly fade certain color components in inks which are usually color combinations, the result being that when one or more components fade, the final color can be markedly different). |

I think this is a listing by our good Rocket Doctor, if I'm recognizing the eBay name correctly.
I'd have to guess that the purple color is probably from a second printing batch or such (maybe after the initial printing run) that was simply (for whatever reason) printed in a different color. Seems like I've heard reference to them before, but did not realize they were that rare either. Maybe Rocket Doctor (Ken) will chime in and enlighten us. Earl

The one I have is purple too. It's also showing a little more wear than that one, and perhaps a little fading, but no orange.

Jeff,
Perhaps you, or someone else who has one, would be kind enough to scan it for Ninfinger? Steve |

Hello Earl You are correct. I purchased this catalog several years ago on ebay for far more than what i am asking. The good Old Doctor will be downsizing his huge collection of more than 47 years. Keep watching ebay for more interesting items in the future. I also have a huge collection of NASA Literature, Lithos, space stamps, medals, newspapers etc. I total of 18 lists. Some vintage B/W late 50's early 60 glossy photos. I am also selling off my huge collection of motors as well, I would like to sell the entire lot and it would have to be picked up. List available. PM me for the lists. Thanks RD Last edited by Rocket Doctor : 11-04-2011 at 04:47 AM. |
