I flew my OMEGA clone as a triple-stager at NARAM-49. True to history, it is almost horizontal when the third stage kicks in. |

I flew my Uber Tuber once on a D12-0, D12-0, D12-7 combo, and the flight was more horizontal than vertical, or so it seemed. It's BT-55 based and thus a bit lighter than the Omega, maybe a bit more so without the Cineroc capsule. But my take is that doing a D12-0, D12-0, D12-7 combo is very risky no matter what is done. Even with a light build, long rod and low wind, it's gonna be marginal. Doug . |

No sweat; even the real birds are going horizontal in order to achieve the orbital path .

Perhaps a rocsim guru could tinker with changing the design parameters one at a time for an optimized three stager that vaguely resembles an Omega.
1. Adding nose weight? 2. Reducing the fin sizes? 3. Increasing the lengths of the booster tubes (altering the CP/CG relationship a bit)? 4. Increasing the sustainer length? 5. Increasing both the boosters and sustainer? 6. Optimize for best vertical trajectory using a D12-0/D12-0/D12-7? (early deployment) 7. Optimize for best vertical trajectory AND better deployment velocity using D12-0/D12-0/E9-8? |

I just primed my Omega today and should have it done by Wednesday. I have been busy at work so building has been slow.

I have the Omega all painted and tomorrow will apply the original decals. I applying Micro-scale products so that they are easier to put on.

Funny you should post this tonight. I was upstairs contemplating rebuilding my TV downlink Cineroc payload and sustainer just before coming down and reading your post.

Outstanding paint job and build! I can't wait to see it with the decals!
The Omega has always been one of my favorite Estes rockets. I had one when I was a kid. |

Yes, I'll put in my 2 cents worth here too.............that is a beautifully finished Omega! How did you do your fin fillets? I can't even see them! Did you use epoxy?
