Flew my Estes Astron Sprint XL
Saturday, March 2nd, was a great day for flying rockets in Los Angeles.
Temp in the 80's, little or no wind. A fine day to have a first flight on a new model rocket. I prepped my new Estes Astron Sprint XL model with an Estes C11-3 motor. The model left the pad quickly after motor ignition. An excellent flight with a landing in some soft green weeds. No damage. The Sprint XL was an straight-forward build. The use of a plastic nose and tail cone along with laser-cut fins made the build much easier than the original version. It's a good looking model in the stock paint scheme. Keep bringing out the 'upscale'/XL kits Estes!

Wonderful photos! What shade of yellow is that on the NC?

Very nice Bob!
I am probably going to get one of these. The C11-3 is great for small fields, one of my faves, but I think this would be great on the F35WL, field allowing. |

Looks great.
I used to fly my original Astron Sprint on B14-7's and C6-7's all the time. Got it back every flight too. In my 'retired' stable now....

Thanks. The paint I used for the nose cone was Tamiya TS-47 Chrome Yellow. It looked to be the best match for the catalog pictures of the original K-49 kit.

Regular Testor's 'Yellow" is a perfect match to catalog Astron Sprint Yellow.

If were lucky the show model of the original Sprint will be part of the old models that will be on display at the NSL banquet. Then you can see for yourself exactly what the colors were used on the model. I won't be going through the boxes of models for some time so I won't know until then.

Good looking rocket. The mountains in the background of the launch photos looks familiar. Is that Santa Fe Dam ?
