Default My upscale Rock-A-Chute Mark II

I thought I would join in with my current build project. I have been trying to get to this upscale project for a while now. I finally gathered all the parts and I have done some prep work. I have cut down the body tube to length and cut fin slots. I have cut the fins out of 1/8" ply. I've cut the tube for the large launch lug. I got the nose from the Sandman. I'm going to add little struts to the nose, like the original crayon sharpener nose cone. I'm using a 29mm engine mount. I'm sure my build will be slow going but, I just wanted to share.

What size upscale is it, Rick?

I've been thinking of doing one of those, too.

WOW! Is that a BT-60 for a scale launch lug?

It is a 3x upscale. I'm using Loc 3" tubing for the body which is 18" long. For the upscale launch lug I used Loc 38mm motor tube. While it is slightly larger than scale (1.635 o.d.), I used it because it is thicker tubing. Semroc has their series 150 tubing, which has .045 walls and it is 1.590 o.d. That's only .045 narrower and I already had the Loc tube. I forgot earlier, I also made the waterslide upscale decal. I still haven't decided on my approach to making the struts on the nose but, I will. I hope.

Well, now months later I got to do some work on the upscale. I used 3/32" thick by 3/16"wide balsa strips for the nose struts and super glued them in place. I then used a sanding block to taper them. I think it turned out pretty good. Again, my progress is slow.

Rick,

That looks fantastic!

I never realized all the ribs aren't the same length.

I got busy on the nose cone. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. I just had to sit the nose on the rocket. Now I need to get to work on the rest of it.

You should be. That's great.

And if you get tired of it as a Mark II nosecone, you can always use it to sharpen one of those giant crayon banks.
