Try this first. It's totally harmless so if it fails no big deal. Apply some cellophane tape over the decal leaving a "tab" folded over for a grip. Pull the tape off quickly like removing a band aid. That should remove most of the decal. You may have to repeat this a few times depending on how thick the Dullcoat is.

Blessed Salvation!!
The recovery has begun.
I've successfully re-primered the Scud! Before Gordie recommended the tape technique, I'd already removed the destroyed decals with 0000 steel wool. The decals had almost no adhesion at all (even WITH solvaset), so they flaked right off. I then burnished the surface a little further and into the light earth enamel with the steel wool. The white primer has been on for over an hour now with no adverse reaction. I'll let it de-gas until tomorrow and then shoot the light earth. TBC

Since they had no adhesion, that explains why they silvered so badly as air was trapped underneath them. Hopefully things will turn out better this time. |

One. More. Time.......
Allrightythen.
I have Sandman's factory-fresh decals on the Scud and the Solvaset is working them in. Except for the double line, I did all of the lateral black lines with .030" slits of Monokote adhesive film. I had to scrape, reprimer, and repaint the body only. The first set of decals on the NC didn't silver. I'll let the Solvaset work overnight and then see what I end up with tomorrow--but it looks good so far. TBC

Success!!
Glory, Halleluiah!
I cleaned the Scud and shot the dullcote early this a.m. The decals are nearly seamless! Now, since I bought a second set of decals (just in case) from Sandman and I have an NC from Excelsior, I have everything I need to clone this puppy. The End.

That looks really good! Now...when did I make you a Scud nose cone?? I have no memory of that. But I guess I must have.

OOPS, I misspoke. I meant to say I got an NC from Sirius Rocketry.
Excelsior. Sirius. Apogee. blah....blah.....blah..... The names seem to run together.

OK...that explains SOME of the lack of memory. I've made scale Scud nose cones in BT-70 and BT-80.
