Default CRs, thrust rings for Apogee 10.5 motors

Many, many years ago I bought a little assortment of thrust rings and centering rings for the little tubes used by the now-long-gone Apogee 10.5mm motors.

They've been sitting in a drawer in my parts organizer.

If anyone has a use for them, I'll put them in a pill bottle, put the pill bottle in a padded envelope, and mail it off.

I have none of the associated tubes.

We use them to build pistons for the 10mm motors used for internats flying.

Who makes 10mm motors these days? Does Apogee crank out batches for competition purposes?

They're made over in Europe someplace. I heard rumor that the US Team hoards a stash of them in Vienna.

No one in the states. There are several manufacturers in Europe (like Ultra, Delta, MRK, EMI) - the US team has to buy batches for the world space modeling championships every two years. Sometimes there are motors left over and we are lucky to have a place overseas to store them. The "hoard" is a plastic toolbox.

Here's a page on the motors if you are interested:

They used to be in Vienna. The Great White Whale moved them to Bulgaria last summer (photo of the much beloved, Moby, below). They are awaiting our arrival this August for the World championships (third photo is of the field where they will be used).

The "stash" has lots of old european motors which tend to degrade over time. For this summer's event we hope to have new motors from Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Germany. We had hoped to have Polish motors but there was an accident at the Polish motor manufacturer so those are doubtful. Previous sources have been Serbia, Czechoslovakia, and others.

As a side note, the U.S. team also flies lots of U.S. motors in events where 10 mm motors are not preferred.

As for Stefanj's offer of the rings, etc., I would love to have them.

Steve

Steve

You were the first to actually ask!

PM me your mailing address. I'll mail them once I find an envelope.
