And their addresses and when they will be out of town (like at a NARAM, perhaps?).

What is the criterium: number of kits? number of builds? variety?

Number one is most likely that guy that keeps buying up everything on eBay at top prices. Unfortunately, we don't know who it is.

I'd say Scott Branche is probably at least TWO of the top 5... LOL
We have a CMASS member who is not on line who I bet would be in the top 5 if the criteria is number of classic kits. Back in the day I visited his home and saw the collection as it was at the time. For example, he has a STACK of mint Mars Lander K-kits, still sealed.... I would estimate well over 1500 kits in all and multiple of every K-kit I ever heard of...

I sense a need for an "Oceans Eleven thru Thirteen" like caper to "redistribute" some kits....

Maybe they could be redistributed through some wonderful new stimulus program from the Nobama admin.

Why did I ask, you might wonder? Wouldn't it be nice to have a model rocket museum where all of these vintage rocketry items could be displayed for all to enjoy?..Back during NARAM 50, a few of us looked into the possibility of having a display at the Smithsonain (Dulles) but the cost was very high.
My thought is, contact Space Camp in Huntsville , if they had the space and were in agreement, why not have a model rocketry museum there. There are plenty of visitors and participants coming in and out all of the time, this, in my opinion would be the most beneficial area for a museum. I , myself have a few vintage items, that I would like to see on display for others to enjoy. Private collections are great, but, untless they are shared with others, who will benefit? And, by the top five, I mean, who has the most of everything from soup to nuts, an all inclusive collection spanning the 52 years that the hobby has been around. I'm going to do my homework and will report back if i can generate any intereest with Space Camp. FYI I thought that i had the funding available from the previous owner of a major model rocket company...........but, it didn't work out unfortunately........ |
