After contacting Matt Steele he stated that the heat caused the black painted nose cone to expand just enough to prevent it from coming off at ejection.

I had the same thing happen at NARAM-57 with my Estes Mammoth.

If there is going to be a flight delay maybe I need to come up with some portable shade system to put over my rockets.
