Default Estes Ram Jet Project

Being A BAR, I want to build another ram jet. It doesnt seem that there is too much interest in this kit.

I was thinking of finding a kit and upscaling it. what all is involved in an upscale?

Does anybody know how hard it is to find the ram jet kit from estes to start off with?

If any other members built a ram jet, how did it turn out.

It was by far the coolest rocket build I did as a kid, although mine never flew NO MONEY.

Here is a link to the classics page of the ram jet.

If you have RockSim, doing an upscale would be simple. The latest version has a "scale-up/scale-down" feature on the fins, so if you have the original dimensions, you'd draw in the original pattern, then multiply (or divide) by the scale factor.

Locating a scaled-up nose cone is probably just as easy, you simply figure in what the BT size would be, then get a length, then head over to SEMROC and see if there's one that matches or comes close.

The Ram Jet generally goes for ~35.00 - 50.00 on ebay. Here's a link to the last one sold < http://cgi.ebay.com/Estes-Ram-Jet-K...%3A1%7C294%3A50 >

Interesting you bring this up, barone and I were discussing the Ram Jet this past Saturday. He had an original with him that looks very nice (post a pic Don ) I had one years ago, I always liked that kit. Anyway, we agreed that an upscaled Ram Jet would be cool.

I am going to find a kit to build and take measurments off of. Then build an upscale of it. It will take me quite awhile so instead of leaving everybody in suspense (Yea Right) I am going to try and build a good thread once I have the project going well.

Thanks for checking out my thread.

This shows the parts you would need for a stock model:

This will be of help in interpreting the parts codes:

Interesting choice for an upscale because of the two body tube sizes.

Forgot this. You'll need it for the fin pattern.

Thats one of the first problems I am going to address. It may not be an exact upscale. may have to make it work. After I purchase ROCSIM I will get much farther ahead.

But hey in my opinion it aint worth building if it isnt a challenge!

It shouldn't too difficult, just interesting. I think I remember seeing an upscale of this one a while back, but it might have been on the old TRF, which means it's probably gone, but it might be worth a search.
