WANTED: Estes Scamp (1286) Decal Info
Ok, thanks to JimZ site, I've got most of the material I need to sim the Scamp (1286)... That is, except for a question about the decals.
Was the Scamp's decals printed on a clear backing? Or backed in white? Or Yellow? From the redrawn decals, and photos, I'm inclined to believe that it was a clear decal behind it, but I can't be sure. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks! Jim

The Scamp's decals were definitely black on clear. I scratch built this one in 2012.

It looks like the Estes Scamp and Camroc Carrier shared the same decal decor.
The Scamp had stick on decals, I believe the Camroc Carrier were water slide. The little "Imp" decal was centered on a white circle on some water slide sheets. Other sheets were just black ink water slides. On the Scamp kit it was white stickers with black ink. Ok... Ummm... Huh? jeffyjeep is saying that it's black on clear for the Scamp kit. The image of the Scamp (1266) rocket seen on the instructions (and the photo in the 1983 catalog) has the Scamp's imp posed with no white outline or white circle. Additionally, on JimZ site the scan of the decals apparently shows no white border in on it either (but the image is black and white, so a white circle wouldn't necessarily show up). Yet, John Joseph's redrawn decal found on the .pdf file on JimZ site also doesn't have it with any kind of border. I did note, however, that the instructions showed a circular outline for the decal in the application step (number 14), and on the parts page. The Camroc Carrier's face card, instructions, and 1975 catalog photo make it look like it has a white background for the scamp. However the Camroc Carrier's decal (from JimZ) doesn't appear to have a circle, it appears that scamp is simply outlined in white. Yet both use Part Number 37501 for their decals. However the layout is different on both. It looks to me like it evolved over time, and there may be a 3rd variant with the white circle that JimZ hasn't been able to capture. I've attached the decal sheets found on JimZ's site to this post (resized (and for (1286) cleaned up a little). Note: the redrawn decals have additional decals and it's stated that an additional Scamp figure was added, as was the "Scamp" name

I didn't mean to confuse the decal thing.
I had a Scamp kit and remember that round white circle around the cartoon Imp. It was peel and stick vinyl, white circle with black ink. The attached illustration is what I had. But, the picture above the instructions shows just the black ink, more like a water slide. http://www.plans.rocketshoppe.com/e...286/est1286.pdf The Scamp decals started as vinyl in the first cold power convertible kit, then in a standard BP version and also showed up on the Camroc Carrier. Who knows when they changed to water slide. It's like you said, the decals evolved over time.
