Got home from the theater an hour ago. That was splendid.

Looking forward to seeing it, but will probably wait for it to come out on Netflix. Our last theater experience was awful, too many phones and too much talking/activity.

I'll do the matinee after the hype dies down. Next year, I'll be watching it on a cable channel every other day!

I read the book first. I wasn't impressed by the movie.

Will wait until the DVD price drops. Checked yesterday at Wal Mart = $15.96.

Instead bought The Medal of Honor The Stories of Our Nation's Most Celebrated Heroes. 6-part series for $2.96. Starts with Civil War and stops at Vietnam.

Plan to watch it this weekend.

Ok, first question.

I have not read the book, not sure if I will.
Ares 3 is the third manned mission to Mars.
Why would NASA send a botanist to Mars and why did they not include fertilizer to grow something in the soil? Also, shouldn't Watney have something already growing in the soil by the time the storm came?

I hope I'm not over thinking this!

Saw the movie first, which I really enjoyed until the last few minutes when it became too much like Gravity.

The book is just fantastic! And if you have a chance to hear the Audible version, don't miss it.
Almost 12,000 ratings on Audible and it's at 4.8 stars out of 5. Highest rating I've ever seen for anything with that many reviews, and IMHO very well deserved.

Did anyone else "spot" any other "homage's"?

The answers to your questions in post 37 are in the book....

In order to compress what takes almost 11 hours to read out loud to movie length they truncated and glossed over a bunch of details....though until the end the screenplay did a pretty good job of that.

Completely agree with Gus about the audio version. Save for the odd mispronunciation in a few spots, it's brilliant.
