I would assume it was the same part tooling from Centuri. Also, I never saw or built such kits, I just saw them being flown. It is entirely possible that the flyers made their own based on their memory and preference for the Centuri fins, but I asked two flyers about them and they said 'they came with the kit'. Definitely the old Estes version of the Saturn. So either the 1236 or the 2001. I bought a 2001 in mid 90's and never opened it. May have sold it last year in my "need funds" frenzy, or it may be in storage. Either way I can't examine it.

The 2001 has huge oversized balsa fins. It didn't come with slip-ons. It would have had to be the 1236.

I am sorry that I have not been around here for quite awhile.....
When did the 50th anniversary Saturn V kit become unavailable at list price?

Apparently Estes ran out of stock (remember, it was listed as a 'limited edition') - and there were more people like me that purchased more than one.
However I was in Hobby Town a few days ago to buy CA - they had one at 'list price' (although they didn't have the type of CA I was looking for ). Try calling nearby hobby shops. |

#2001 1988-1994. “Saturn V”. Separated at top of BT101, and oversized balsa fins for stability. Motor mount was recessed about 4" from the rear of the one piece BT-101. BT-101 in one piece. Balsa fins a little larger than the K-36. Fixed 1 * 24mm motor mount. Basically an old Centuri KS-12 Saturn V with Estes plastic parts and paper wraps.
I'll post one additional note about the #2001 that many people may already know (it's on the exterior of the 2001 box), but has not been openly stated in this thread. Keith Niskern, who designed the Centuri Saturn V back in 68/69, was the one who redesigned the Estes Saturn V into what became the #2001. The Centuri Saturn always separated at the top of the second stage, and the 2001 redesign introduced this to the Estes Saturn. The Centuri Saturn also had a recessed motor mount. The Centuri Saturn V was introduced in early 1969, before Estes released theirs later in 1969, probably late summer that year. There is a photo of Keith on the 2001 box and reference to his work in bringing about the 2001 model. Earl

Well.....I have the last two issues of the S5. The version which was just D powered and the one that was D or E powered. I did get the 1:200 version but did not bite for the #1969 model. I was wondering if I had missed the last of the new issues by days, weeks, or months.

How bad do you want a 1969? If you really want one - I can go by the local Hobby Town and buy that one - $89.95, another ~$10 sales tax, plus shipping from 98204 (guessing around $20) so figure it'll set you back about $120.

The #1969 only shows the E12-4 and E30-4 as suggested power.
They FINALLY dumped the ridiculous single D12-3 as a suggested engine. I would have liked to see a 3x24mm cluster as a factory mount option or a 29mm mount.
