foose,
Beautiful upscale! I've got one underway now. Since this picture was taken I've ordered a Semroc balsa cone that is really "pointy", like the original OT's nose cone. Your pics motivate me to get it completed. I've got the decals in red for it. Next to it is a standard OT one sporting green decals.

Thanks guys!
Lee, Semroc has the exact upscale cone you seek. They should have it listed as BC-60Y. Hopefully, that's the one you ordered? It matches the profile of the original BNC-50Y that was used in the early OT kits. Funny thing, I originally ordered a BNC-60AO from BMS to use on mine, which is the balsa version of what is on yours now. That was the closest thing I could find at the time. I knew Carl has a few things up is sleeve that aren't listed, so I inquired to see if he had the proper upscale cones. The email reply stated they had them and they were boxed up ready to ship. I had them in my hands two days later....free of charge! They were listed as a stock item on the site a day or two after that. How's that for customer service!?!?!? Mine sat unfinished for quite some time even after I got the proper cones, but I owed it to the fine folks at Semroc to get the thing finished and in the air. It's been flown many, many, times and has some battle damage now, but it's still my favorite rocket to fly. I don't have nearly as much history with mine as Initiator, but I know where he was coming from with his pics! Oh, I forgot to mention...Vern signed it at NARAM 50. |

foose,
Yes, the 60Y is the one I ordered. I was looking thru the nose cone profiles awhile back, and saw this nose cone, and new I couldn't live with the Estes plastic cone, after seeing the Semroc balsa beauty! And your OT is signed by Vern? Surely you have retired it now?! I had hoped to meet Vern at NARAM-52, but was only there for one day, and missed him. I did meet Mike Dorffler, which was a real honor. And I spent a LOT of time in the Semroc booth, where I happened to meet Bill Simon of Estes fame. And Bill Saindon of BMS, who I've done business with since the early 90s, and ... well, let's just say it was a great day.

It appears that at some point I did replace the original shock cord. My OT now has six feet of 1/8" flat elastic as the shock cord. It looks pretty cool coming down under parachute. Bob |

I really like the pic of the glider on final approach. I'm expecting it to drop it's gear down at any moment!
