The Day the Earth Stood Still
What - no "Klaatu barada nikto" ? Why screw with the classics?
(actually I liked the flick despite it's political undertones)

I was looking forward to seeing this film even though the original is one of my all time favorites. However, after hearing about the new version from friends who have seen it, I've decided to wait until it goes to tv or video.

I thought it was OK, but very shallow. Keanu Reeves character was good, but there was poor character development so you were not REALLY drawn in... Its like someone came up with a few cool special effects and they tried to base a whole movie on it.... GORT was cool

I have to agree here... I didn't think too much of it. Then again, I've seen the original about a hundred times...
I contend... if we quit going to see the remakes... maybe they will quit making them...??? |

If they'd have given it another name and NOT tried to tie it to the GREAT original classic they'd have done themselves a bit better I think.
The two have Very little in common.

I think they reuse the name because they're afraid no one will watch it otherwise. Mario |

I agree! And I generally don't go see remakes. With all the good Science Fiction out there, I don't see why the have to keep remaking classics. How about a Ringworld movie, or The Mote in Gods eye, Rendezvous with Rama, A Fall of Moondust, any of the Asimov robot books. Anything from Heinlein. Even Ellison. Plenty of good stories out there to be made. Mark |

Because there is absolutely NO imagination in Hollywood any more. I would also nominate any of the Flandry/Van Rijn novels by Poul Anderson too. |

a number of years ago "they" said that that sequels were so popular because movies cost so doggone much to make it was difficult to find anyone willing to risk $20 million on an "unknown franchise." So instead they'd rather bet on "Rocky XXVIII." Go figure.
