Mesquito sounding rocket
Hello All,
Thanks to Jean-Jacques Serra, a rocket and space flight historian in France (his "Rockets in Europe" website http://fuseurop.univ-perp.fr/index_e.htm is but one of his many works and papers), I have been made aware of more useful scale data on the Mesquito sounding rocket (more on this below). In 2010, I had posted several links to material on this vehicle (see: http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showt...hlight=Mesquito ). The Mesquito (that's not a typo) is a boosted-dart sounding rocket that NASA developed to use the surplus U.S. Army MLRS (Multiple-Launch Rocket System) motors. I don't know if all of the links in my 2010 postings still work (Googling www.google.com "Mesquito sounding rocket" will bring up "fresh" links, in any event), but at least most of them should. Also: Jean-Jacques sent me a dimensioned drawing of the Mesquito, which I have attached below (along with Mesquito photographs); he found it in this 2007 NASA Wallops sounding rocket report: http://sites.wff.nasa.gov/code810/f...report_2007.pdf . Here (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesquito ) is a Wikipedia article on the Mesquito, and here (see: http://www.nasa.gov/centers/wallops...ain_w051208.pdf ) is an issue of "Inside Wallops" that has a short notice (with a photograph) about the Mesquito vehicle. Plus, here is a video of a Mesquito launch at Wallops Island, Virginia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADbw99DDmio . I hope this material will be helpful.
