Airborne Surveillance Missile
I know the ASM is a "scale like" kit, but others such as the Nike-X have roots in real missiles. Was the ASM inspired by a specific missile? If so, which one/ones? It reminds me of some naval sea skimmers.

I think it looks kind of Exocet-ish.

I believe that is based on a German tactical recon missile from the '70s. I can't put my finger on a reference, but it had a solid rocket booster and a turbine powered sustainer. I will keep looking.

Nope and nope. Canadian reconnaissance drones CL-89 and/or CL-289.

Entirely possible the Germans bought them though!

"The Canadair CL-89 is a surveillance drone (UAV) produced jointly by Canada, Britain and West Germany in the 1960s."
Looks like you're both right. I noticed it was tested in Arizona, so there's some USA involvement too, even if it was just to let them come play in our sandbox.

Thanks for the correction. I probably saw a picture with the German markings and did not think about Canadair.
