Asteroid defense test 10/12
Hello All,
A small asteroid, 2012 TC4, which is due to pass just ~27,000 miles above Australia today, is going to be used for the first real-time planetary defense exercise. Such an event, if it involved an actual impact (or even a grazing pass through our atmosphere, which could negatively affect defense radars’ “seeing”), could be “taken advantage of” by our adversaries, and: While today’s exercise will involve minimizing casualties in the event of an impact, the military implications of such an event would be well worth war-gaming, as such an event has nearly occurred at least once before (just before the first Gulf War, an asteroid that exploded in the atmosphere missed Baghdad by just a few hours) during a time of international tension. Also, two other asteroids, including Florence (a 2.7 mile-wide one), have passed by the Earth recently. Below are links to articles about these recent and upcoming asteroid flybys: 2012 TC4: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/a...ve-rare-chance/ 2012 TC4 http://www.mirror.co.uk/science/ast...-earth-10969918 2016 RB1: http://www.nasa.gov/feature/jpl/sma...ast-earth-today Florence: http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/31/us/as...trnd/index.html I hope this information will be useful.
