I remember watching his commentary on the moon landings. He actually took the time to learn something about the subject. You could tell he was well acquainted with the material.
When his successor, Dan Rather, covered the first shuttle launch in '81, you could tell he didn't know squat. He didn't know the difference between the main engines and the SRBs. He was...well the invective that almost followed would detract from admiring Cronkite. Cronkite was a great man. He helped educate me--all of us. |
