FYI, John, the Challenger 498's next NAR Regional Contest is scheduled for April 4 - 5, 2009
down in Needville, TX. One of the events is Sport Scale (wanna guess who's agreed to be the
Sport Scale Judge?!). Since you now have a relative in Southwest Houston, feel free to come
on down and fly that weekend with us! I just might be able to build my Estes 1/70 Saturn 1-B
and enter it for the contest (and fly THIS one!).....

Have a good one!

Well, mine is the one (no doubt the only one) that is brush-painted, rather than spray painted. It should be the one in the photo that looks a little blurry.

Overall, it was a fun but pressure packed project and I wouldn't mind doing one again. Only next time I'd like to have more time for the build (three months versus the three weeks I had for this one!).

My thoughts exactly. But one thing that is almost always true about projects like this - you don't get to pick the time frame.

Sounds like fun! I assume the event list is on TCC website?

Dot sure looks like really loves those Saturn 1-B's!! And, I can see mine, too!! Those three
models at the very front on the top level of the platform, mine is the third from the left. You'll note the Service Module detailing closely resembles the Centuri version.

It's not on the TCC website yet (but then, I haven't looked since midweek), but it is on Art
Applewhite's Launches page.

Events are:

Sport Scale
E Streamer Duration
C Boost/Glide Duration
B Helicopter Duration, and
A Parachute Duration

JP has agreed to be the Sport Scale Judge. Our launch site down in Needville, TX is more
than adequate to handle these events. One I'm really looking forward to is the E S/D, that
should be a lot of fun (as well as C B/G -- wonder how many will turn into balsa dust?! ).
More later.....

The middle one of the group of three in front and to the right appears to be mine.

Are we going to get to find out who were the buyers of our respective models?

Mark or Carl will have to answer that one. Nina, Sheryl, bruce,Chas, James, Bill, Stuart, Laurie, and I spent a lot of time boxing them back up for shipment. It was pretty hectic. I was told there were a couple of them that went to astronauts, but I'm not sure which models went to whom...

Yep, I'm pretty sure a couple went to some pretty famous people. James Gartrell did his part by helping at least one prostpective buyer select one. It was funny to see James, all decked out in his suit and tie making like a salesman at a "used rocket lot." :-)
