Default $5 a gallon gas by June ... and I was planning to drive to NARAM

Well folks,

This will really be bad for our economy and travel plans this summer. Electric vehicles are a HOAX! They were first tried at the turn of the 20th Century and now at the turn of the 21st Century and they are still crap. Chevy Volt gets about 19 miles on a charge ... here is the video proof of that:

http://nation.foxnews.com/chevy-vol...ke-electric-car

As for the $5/gal gas, here is a link to that:

http://www.mcall.com/business/mc-ga...story?track=rss

So has air powered engines been discussed? I know there is a British manufacture of compressed air cars, and they do work! Thing is, there is a small gas motor that continually compresses a pressure tank to power the engine, so there is no getting away from burning Dino-Juice!

Tesla Motors has a very good, but very expensive, electric-only Roadster, but it gets over
300 miles on a charge. They're coming out this year (I believe) with a Sedan that's a bit
more reasonable in price and they've just announced an SUV type crossover. Electric
motorcycles are a growing trend and those (Zero Motorcycles, Brammo, and others) look
really nice. If I rode 'cycles I would look at buying one.

A loooong time ago there was a TV show called "Beyond 2000" and in one of those shows
they previewed a British-made steam-powered car that ran on propane. Looked really
great but I never heard about it again. I even wrote to the show about the car because I
wanted to buy or build one myself, but never heard back.

My Toyota Prius that I bought in 2010 is really great on gas mileage, getting around 48 mpg
on a reglar basis. It's much better than my F-150 (but I still like the truck better). With my
wife driving to Houston from San Antonio almost every weekend we're saving a bundle in
gas costs. Of course we still have to buy gasoline, but 48mpg is a lot better than 20mpg.

Some BLOWHARD always touts nonsense about $5/gal gasoline by xxxx date every year for the last 5+ years.
Alarmists that perpetuate the same nonsense serve no valid purpose buying into the baloney.

First, who ever told you that electric cars like the Volt would replace gas powered cars for long distance driving?

Second, oil companies are engaged in profiteering by manipulating the market, available refineries, and foreign sales.

It's worse than that. There is currently a tax break of $10,000 for buying a Volt. And studies have shown that most of those buying the Volt are the wealthy since only they can afford to spend that much. When can we see the Occupy protesting that subsidy to the top 1%?

I guess your perspective depends highly on which media outlet(s) you choose to pay attention to:

Doesn't matter much to me, though--I pedal to/from work and most errand-type trips, logged more miles on the bike last year than the car, so I tend to burn carbs, not carbon.

I applaud and commend your resourcefulness. We should all avoid driving for short trips. I try to walk to the stores near my house, for example.

Nit: The "carbs" in carbohydrates are still carbon - when you exercise, you're giving off CO2 just like a car, only not as much

Doug
