Default U.S.S. Enterprise Colors

HELP!!! I am trying to build the AMT model of the original Enterprise... THE KIT SUCKS!!! There are NO painting instructions at all. I am going with a light gray for the overall color, but does anyone here know where I can find out what colors to paint the other little bits and pieces of the model? Warp nacells, deflector dish etc?

I'm still looking through some of my links...

http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=8672
http://wesclark.com/burbank/ncc_1701.html
http://www.cloudster.com/sets&vehic...anMiniature.htm
http://www.mjtsc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/new/1701.htm

But if you look through some of the other build articles I think you might find enough information to finish your project.

Scott,

A couple of direct links:

http://www.culttvman2.com/dnn/tabid.../7/Default.aspx

www.starshipmodeler.com/trek/ss_classic_ent.htm

The main issue is the overall color; the deflector dish is usually listed as copper, the fronts of the nacelles, orange (unless you're trying for that spinning, lighted look), and the backs of the nacelles, bands at the fronts of the nacelles, and rectangles on the pylons, a darker grey.

Thanks for the help guys! I knew folks here would be able to help... Let me just say that I have the utmost respect for plastic modellers! This has been THE biggest pain in the butt for such a simple model. This will make the 3rd plastic model I have ever finished in my 30 years of hobbies. Ironically the first two were klingon battle cruisers.

I'm working on one of these too, and appreciate the references here. One add'l site to check out is:

http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=8672

This site has lots of pictures of bits of the big studio model taken during its 1992 "restoration."

I'm struggling to get everything to line up right as I build. An error in one sub-assembly (such as misaligning the top and bottom of the saucer) can have ugly trickle-down implications for other places (such as the alignment of the engine mount and probe). Having the nacelle pylons at the wrong angle means the detailed bits on the nacelles will be cockeyed, etc. Plus the plywood was warped, as I mentioned on SCIGS30's enterprise thread. A worthy challenge of a kit, no doubt!

If only Rick Sternbach would get back into the hobby and log onto the forum, he could tell us a little about the official ST stuff.

(Well, it worked a couple of years ago with Jon Robbins!)

(sort of. He came to NARAM 50, but he didn't talk much here about the Groundhog.)

Sorry the late response, It sounds like your already done. The main deflector dish is gold or bronze. Copper works well also. The engine nacelle domes (bussard collectors) are hard to replicate, The original model were frosted/opaque orange with lighted Christmas tree lights flashing behind them for the effect. Very high tech. Tamyia has a line of translucent paints that work well.

Be careful following the color of the Smithsonian model, The re furbish is not considered authentic by most Star Trek fans. The only thing that is original is the top of the primary hull. The rest is NOT how she looked during filming. A lot of creative painting there. The nacelle caps are not original.

Here is a link to a good production photo.

Hope this helps

Mark

BTW Polar Lights will release a 1/350 scale TOS Enterprise next year! and yes the AMT version does stink.
