New Dupli-Color Filler/Primer
I've been using both Dupli-Color Filler/Primer and 3M Bondo Filler/Primer for a number of years, both are fast drying, very sandable primers, that can take just about any paint, especially the lacquers I like to use when possible. The 3M Bondo dried a little faster, the Dupli-Color filled a little better, so I'd use them based on how much fill I needed.
Well, the last can of Dupli-Color I bought had a different label, but is still called "Filler & Sandable Primer". I used it on a large plastic nose cone, and immediately noticed it was a bit darker gray. No big deal, I thought, so put on a few light coats like I usually do. When I went to sand it with 320, it clogged up the sandpaper very fast, more like some enamel primers I've used. The stuff is awful! I switched back to my Bondo, and while it's a bit thinner, it's much, *much* more sandable. The primer dust flies off easily, instead of getting stuck in the sand paper. Has anyone else used this new stuff? Is the old stuff still available under a different name? I get it at Advance Auto, and this new stuff was in place of the old stuff.

While I have not tried this new stuff, I can usually tell if a primer is decent by reading the solvent package on the label.
If it is mostly "hot" lacquer type solvents, it usually is decent. If the solvent package is "enamel" type, generally it is paper- clogging garbage-juice. Can you list the solvents in order on the can ?

I have a can and I like it so far. I have only sprayed it on fiberglass and finished a 7.5" filament wound nose cone with the new stuff.

OK,
The attachments are snips from the SDS (formerly known as MSDS). The Dupli-Color 2-In-1 (Bad stuff) is the new one with 8 ingredients The Dupli-Color Filler Primer (Good Stuff) is the old one with 14 ingredients The 3M Bondo (Good Stuff) is the one with 12 ingredients

I bought two cans of what I thought was a "new" label filler at Advance Auto.
I couldn't find what I've bought before. I got home, checked the product number on the old empty can of Duplicolor Filler/Primer and knew it was a different formulation. I went back to the store with the two, unused cans of the '2 In 1" label. I found new cans of the grey label marked "FILLER" and exchanged them. More labels and more formulations to confuse everybody.

Paul-
Most all the solvents in the "new/bad" 8-ingredient label are used in enamels, except the Acetone. I would expect the Acetone to "flash off" fairly fast then leaving a soft fairly slow drying product. I would not even attempt to sand the new stuff for a few days, otherwise it will clog the paper.

I stopped at a different Advance Auto yesterday, and they carry both types. To be clear, I've attached a photo of the good stuff, just labeled "Primer Filler", (#FP101). The second attachment shows the old label for FP101.
The FP101 was $1 cheaper than the new 2-In-1 awful stuff (#DAP1700).
