Vintage Estes Mark II build
On to the next page of 1979... I Sound like Casey Kasem. This is the Mark II, should be a simple straight forward build. I have about 3 of these kits, can't beat the cheap price. For some reason I really like the page on the back of the instructions.

Of course the build went pretty fast, will add fillets and brush on 3 coats of balsa sealer.

Love the catalog theme, Scigs! I've been following your progress, dutifully drooling...
Now, if only we could still get them at those vintage prices...

Making it BIGGER!

Last night I threw together a rough RockSim file of this version of the Mark II (as opposed to the life-size version of "MarkII" Kulka ). I discovered that upscaling BT-30 results in 1.73X (BT-55) and 2.13X (BT-60) versions. Cheers,

Try an upscale to ST-10 size, Jay. Something tells me this would make a good-flying bird for common 18mm engines...

Looking good as always
the Mark II was my first ever rocket - lost it before it could be painted ( 2nd or 3rd flight ) . I just cloned it a year or so back , using a vintage cone and Jonrocket (iirc, might have been uncle mikes ) spiralwound BT30 - and used the original decals the 'estes' logo decal fell apart and had to be replaced with one from the leftovers box, but the others, after clearcoat, worked fine after 30 years . need to get out and fly that one, don;t recall if we flew it once before put up enshrined or not ( unfortunately my Mark clone will never fly, having been signed by Vern and Gleda at NARAM 50 ) ~ AL |

All done with the Mark II, fun build should fly great. The decals went on nice and smooth for an old kit. The nose cone was glued in with extra glue so when I pushed the cone in the glue oozed out. I then smoothed the glue out and the joint is seamless. I then brushed on 3 coats of Aerogloss balsa sealer. Couple coats of Plastikote primer followed by Old Krylon Gloss yellow and black.
