Paper wrap (not sticky wrap) adhesive question
I'm working on a Quest "Future Launch Vehicle".
http://www.questaerospace.com/cgi-b...action&key=3013 It uses pre printed paper wraps. The wraps went really well using spray adhesive that I got at Staples. Nice straight, only a few wrinkles (so far). Pics will follow. There are small body tube "Boosters" that get glued to the main body tube. Now the little tubes have an exposed bare body tube for gluing. The main tube is wrapped with the decorative paper. My question is what is going to be the best adhesive here? Worried about the bond to the paper wrap. |

I would use wood glue, its is tacky and will give a strong bond when dry.

To have a secure mounting point, one needs to line up the mating surfaces the way you want and make a tick mark. Then draw a line as a guide on both surfaces...just make sure it will be hidden. Then with a razor blade or new xacto blade cut away the paper down the line. Maybe 1/16 wide or so. Do this to both mounting surfaces, main bt and the little booster tube. Then use your preferred glue (I use epoxy, but ymmv) and attach. This process makes a much stronger and secure mount. If you glue paper to paper only, if something happens, and it separates, that separation will tear the paper up, ruining your preprinted covers. I have never had a problem doing as I described. Overkill, perhaps, but it works nicely and is easy to do.

Because these are printed wraps I would use white glue to attach the SRBs.
Titebond dries yellow, white glue dries clear. Epoxy might get away from you and could also stain the wraps. There is already a wrap gap exposing a line of bare tube on the SRBs. This is the gluing area. Out of curiosity, I read a few reviews on rocketreviews.com - http://www.rocketreviews.com/quest-...d-ray-king.html In the reviews there doesn't seem to be any separations of the SRBs off the main body. So gluing the seam gap to the main body wrap with white glue isn't a problem. The main problem seems to be the fins breaking off the SRBs on touchdown. They are card stock laminates and the root edge is narrow.

Thanks for the link nice review and I see what they are saying about the fins.
They are quite thin, I might consider building up some balsa fins with tab/slot attachment. Oh I used wood glue to attach the 'boosters' and they seem pretty well attached. We will see if one dosent go flying off when launched |
