I was glad to see ESTES is planing on doing the Saturn V and 1B also other scale rockets. How do we know if the new owners will follow through with these planes? Hope they do.

Thanks for a great Q & A.
Very infomative with more positives than negatives. I know some won't be satisfied because they didn't get the answers they were hoping for. But, it's a dialogue. Re-issued engines, Classic kits, Saturn Vs and Maxi Brutes. They may not meet the original planned roll-out dates - but it's business, showing a positive turn.

Barry told me he wanted to put more thought into some of the questions and give more detailed answers when he gets back. He didn't say which questions, so maybe those who felt they didn't get good answers will get a better answer.

I don't know how anyone could be disappointed in any of the answers. I thought they were reasonable answers to reasonable and unreasonable questions alike. Any time you want to try to get any of the other employees involved in something like this, I promise I'll stick to the background.

He mentioned safety a lot regarding product suggestions.
What are his criterion? Jerry |

Over the next three years Estes could simply add the www.nar.org text string to all instructions and face cards and included documents in kits. Done. You could add the text string, "Jerry Irvine told you so", as well. . . . . Jerry cite: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPSIA |

His company distributes perceived-as- potentially dangerous products to retail outlets that are probably really cautious about such. Yes, yes, you and I and probably even Barry know that when used as directed by people with common sense model rockets are less dangerous than most of the things in the sporting goods sections, and have caused fewer injuries than baby strollers and EZ-Bake Ovens. But when you come right down to it model rockets are pretty daring items for today's retail environment. Successfully keeping them in an environment like Wal-Mart or Target is a balancing act. You have to give Estes credit for managing to do it. That said, the caution over certain motor choices is puzzling. I can understand why there'd be a hesitation to introduce bigger motors, but a D20 doesn't strike me as a particularly daring or risky product. |
