I keep forgetting that the 1.04" width is where the nose cone and reducer/transition "collide" into a single piece.

The RockSim 2D doesn't really show the difference in diameters that well; the ST-9 "engineering section" looks the same size visually. It is smaller, though, in reality.

Like James said -- Be careful what you ask for around this forum, it might come back to bite you.

I liked the shape of the TZ nose cone, and I think it has a lot of potential future use. Don't be surprised if you start seeing more "TAU" series designs. Also, Jay, don't be afraid to use that cone in more of your own designs.

Another "Cracker Barrel" doodle-dump...

You've all seen 'em, if you eat regularly at the CB chain (like I do... at least twice a week...), sitting on every table. Those hurricane lamps that provide the primary source of illumination after 4 PM...

This model takes the general outline of that lamp and forms a set of open-structure fins. The base of the lamp's globe forms a ring fin (which is what kills much of the stability, BTW, due to its location forward of the rear edge.), while the oil tank at the bottom forms the rear fins. It's not a perfect compromise, by any means. It still requires three-eights of an ounce of ballast (3 - 1/8th oz fishing sinkers) on the back of the shoulder to reach a safe stability margin, and there is only one motor that allows the parachute to deploy at a safe velocity - the C6-3.

The model will reach safe flight V in the length of a standard rod.

Wow, Craig, what are you going to use on the fins for the Lamplighter. Better call Carl.

I really like Jay's Tau nose cone as well however, I have been reluctant to post this next design for fear of offending Jay, as I concider him a pal. We may have even met once at NSL 2001 in Toole, Utah as I was there and so was Jay. But, what are friends for if they can't take a little poke now and again. He might even like Tau Tau. So here it is.
