Beans and Franks
Every Saturday I enjoy my Beans and Franks or Franks and Beans for supper. I doctor them up a little with onions but straight out of the can is a favorite. Wife and kid can't stand the sight or smell of 'em. It's heaven to me.

The folks at Jack Daniels tell us that their product is Tennessee sippin' whiskey, not bourbon. I never toured George Dickel's distillery, so I don't know what they call theirs.

The folks at George Dickel say the only difference between Tennessee Whiskey and bourbon is the charcoal filtering that occurs during the manufacturing process. That statement also applies to Jack Daniel's as well.

They came as C Rations and I'm not sure if it was from being out in the boonies for a month or what, but heated up with a heat tab they sure tasted good. The only thing better was the Spaghetti and "meat balls" heated and dumping that little tin of white cheese in it. ...

BTW, it appears that JD is now the property of a Louisville outfit, Brown-Forman. I'm sure there are some Tennesseans who consider that sacrilege Doug .

I thought Jack Daniels was considered sour mash, which is similar to, but not quite bourbon.

It probably is by others, but Mike has it dead on if you go to the Tennessee sippin whiskey distilleries and talk to them. They also make their own barrels and only use them once, selling the used barrels to KY bourbon makers along with some Irish distilleries....at least when I toured in the 80's.

I cut the hot dogs into 1" lengths and fry them with diced onions, then a bit of garlic just before the beans go in. Ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, cilantro, cumin, italian seasoning and black pepper turn it into my version of frank 'n beans. Oh, and a bit of hot sauce or crushed red pepper. A great little one pot meal.
There's an irony in distilling whiskey in a county where you can't drink or sell it. I only buy JD if someone asks for it.

That guy from Barbecue University is addicted to cilantro. I don't think I ever saw a show where he didn't use it multiple times. Had to look his name up....Steven Raichlen.
